In Reply to: RE: MQA - Which DAC makers are onboard with it ? posted by AbeCollins on May 30, 2017 at 06:22:46
this page would supply the answer, but it really doesn't.
Visit the Mark Levinson website and I cannot find any mention of MQA support with their No.519 player.
Visit the Moon website and the comparison chart makes no mention either.
The same is true with Krell.
All I could find about dCS was this dated communication.
"The current situation is that our development team have prototyped an MQA solution inside a dCS DAC but this "software only" mode of enabling MQA has hit some challenges. We are working with the MQA development team to identify solutions to these technical challenges and this work may result in us changing our architecture from software only to a hybrid software and hardware solution."
Lots of names listed that don't actually offer products. Go figure. :)
Follow Ups:
Mark Levinson had a big MQA sign on one of their pieces at the Munich show. I didn't have time to investigate further but it seemed clear that ML have MQA support ready or imminent.
dCS were actually demonstrating their MQA solution via a Rossini on day one of the show. So their work on it seems to be complete.
Quite a few other manufacturers were indicating an MQA commitment but I now cannot remember who.
Of course items will be on show at major shows like Munich which are scheduled for release later in the year. Those items will not appear on the manufacturers' web pages until they become available to customers.
Not hooked up or anything though.
I'm guessing that most have at least committed enough to be working in the background (slowly, of course) in order to see how all of this shakes out.
I am doubting (but do not know) that Meridian is charging up-front fees to DAC manufacturers just to work on MQA solutions for their various products, especially those development.
