Online software updates must flash them again and again?

It takes me 3 minutes to Fix one, instead of going to the store to buy more. I have on hand usually a dozen or so.

Using diskpart to clean an SD card is a good first step for a misbehaving card, but something that may help if diskpart does not is to do a full format. The more common quick format assumes the card is okay. The full format will check for and mark bad sectors. The full format can take several hours depending on the size of the card and amount of bad sectors, but it could make your card usable again. I was able to bring back my 64gb card with a full format.

Actually if you read the link that I posted....You would have read that a Format is useless."If you've used an SD card for more advanced purposes than simply storing digital photos (e.g. running a mobile or micro OS), you'll find it requires a little more finesse than simply formatting the card to reclaim all the space. Read on as we show you how."
The Diskpart will be able to correct errors that a Full Format cannot handle. Full Format is the first step, but often fails, especially if you start flashing O/S on the Card. So, you have it the other way around.
1.) Full Format is a good first step
2.) Disk Part is the Last StepCut-Throat
