thanks for the reply!
and yep, hairs on arm when positioned near that corner do stand up, very much so. that is how I noticed the issue.
will look for bluish glow tonight but I don't recall seeing such.
there is no tranny close in that corner, just a big cap. It is a factory assembled version but I did some minor repairs about 3 months go, after almost 20 years of use - replaced all the power tube anode caps, and 4 bad 640v capacitors.
Never noticed this issue until last few weeks.
I have Bruce's book that shows the schematic and parts list (80 watt mono version) but it calls out the differences for my 25 watt stereo version.
Always wish I had bought the 80 watt version but - as my indian friend said when I told her I should have married an indian girl - too late now :)
There must be something wrong with me for not having something wrong.
Follow Ups:
It might be time to replace the wires to the plate caps, but that really doesn't explain why there would be static outside of the box, unless you are running the amp with the cover removed.
Is the chassis grounded to the wall?
The unit has a 3 prong plug and the outlet has 3 holes, and it is a relatively new building, and the surge protector shows green "protected" LED, so I think so.
I am in Las Vegas, often the relative humidity is in the mid teens (lower than the Sahara desert), and the apartment is largely carpeted.
So maybe I am a walking static charge?
There must be something wrong with me for not having something wrong.
