Hello all, just finished restoring a set of OTL-3's that I purchased last year from a fellow otl asylum member. The boards were stripped of all components, the traces were all cleaned of all oxidation and then were resoldered, quite heavy I might add, new ceramic sockets and all resistors, diodes, capacitors and wire as well. Posted is a few pics of the amps. I will be making a post later that will cover the trip that I made to Croton on Hudson last month to visit with Ted Hammond, pics of that trip and a story of the adventure will be posted as well, for now just wanted to show the asylum members a glympse of what I just finished...

This looks very nice. The front plate looks very different than the one I have; is that new?
(MIne has meters, which accounts for some of the difference, but the handles are different also.) Are you using the original tubes? 6LF6's are hard to find these days. You haven't commented yet on the sound. What speakers are you using them with?
I've just replaced my old van den Hul MC One with a van den Hul Frog, and, as I have said
elsewhere, think the music I"m getting now is rather terrific. (NYAL OTL3 + Stax F83's + RM subwoofers).
If your otl-3's have the meters they are the later model, all 3 set's that I own are from 1981 the first year in production.
The speakers are Klipsch cornwall's in custom cabinets with new Crites x-overs, they are very nice to listen to, best Klipsch speakers I have ever owned.
Thanks for the info..an pic...look great!

Brian these are absolutely beautiful, great work.
I cannot wait to hear them in your rig.
Would be tempted to drive my Quads down
with me to hear them (like never before)
just got the boards ready for the second set of otl-3's, new sockets and beefed up traces on board.
back of board.
Just went over and saw (and heard) what Brian's been up to for myself. Seriously impressive, painstakingly detailed work. The finished amps sound fantastic.
Here is my re-build OTL-3
Thanks for the pic............
That amp looks great! How do you like the sound?
The sound is perfect with my G610B and LC1C! More like a SS amp with all the benefit of tube amp.
and one more.
Judging from the anode caps, it seems you stuck with the 6LF6. Where did you get so many of them?
Ever since I got my first pair of otl-3's last year I have been buying them like a madman, I don't intend to buy anymore, got about 200 now that are all GE's aproximately 150 of them are the tall bottle, have about 25 of the sylvania's too that are all nos. I purchased all the remaining stock that Ted Hammond had left, around 80 pieces when I went up to visit and learn, he was the original engineer for NYAL, got a big story to tell this week with pic's taken while I was there.
Had a a GREAT time up there with Ted...
Too Cool!!!

Given the fact that the 6LF6s in my Futterman H3aa's lasted for 10 years after I first purchased the then new amps from Julius himself, I would say you have a supply for several lifetimes.
