Yes - of course Larry Young. I love Into Something but the disc I play most is Talkin About, and favourite track "I'm an Old Cowhand". Elvin is marvellous and Grant Green is.... just himself.
Thanks for reminding me of the Freddy Hubbard discs - a couple I don't have. I have all the Wayne Shorters on the list. And love that Pete La Rocca disc - I used to play it a lot.
My omissions are:
Clifford Jordan - Glass Bead Games, Live At Ethels etc
Ahmad Jamal - Pionciana Revisited, if only for the Valley of the Dolls Theme, and some...
Art Blakey - Free for All, with a stunning Wayne Shorter arrangement of Pensativa
Archie Sheep and Horace Parlan - Goin' Home, Trouble in Mind.
I had the huge fortune to do a small tour with Horace Parlan. What a lovely guy, and those chords....just made in heaven.

I had Archie Shepp in my taxi once a long time ago. I said to him something like your pretty famous or well know right? His response was likely a common one. He complained he never made any real money. Had to play in Europe to get by. Celine Deon's net worth is like 700 mill. Nice cut from Archie. T456

I was inspired by this thread to go on YT and listen to a lot of Shepp. My God - it's good and wears very well. I listened to Fire Music - The Girl From Ipanema will never be the same! I heard Archie's band play this music on tour with Miles Davis and to me it was the high point of the evening. The transition from Hambone to Prelude to a Kiss was magical live. Then I listened to Four For Trane, then Mama Too Tight (very fun funk track)... and so on.
No one, absolutely no one plays the sax like Shepp. Respect!
