In Reply to: RE: Espana very good but humbly think the Campoli better recorded. In any case a very satisfying VC. Nt posted by jdaniel@jps.net on April 12, 2017 at 16:23:47
onto the 'Espana' when they send it off to QOBUZ, but there it was!

Label : Decca / Compositeur : Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky
Alfredo Campoli, Associated Performer, Violin, Main Artist
- London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra, Orchestra, Main Artist
- Ataulfo Argenta, Conductor, Conductor, Main Artist
- Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Composer
All in proper QOBUZ French!

Not only is the VC tacked onto the Qobuz version but also onto the download version made available by Decca to its partners e.g. Presto Classical. This seems to be a result of the original album being too short for these digital days. In order to pad it out to 70 minutes or so Decca appear to have tacked on the Campoli apparently solely as it was a piece of the right length but without any artistic regard to the Spanish theme of the album. In the CD release they padded it with Debussy Images where at least Iberia did make sense in the context of the disc.

performance of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto as a filler piece.
I quite enjoyed it and, if the folks here like the HDTT version I might be forced to spring for the 'poor man's' Hi Rez download from HDTT. That would be the no-jeweled-box 24/192 DVD-A for $9 plus media mail shipping. Last order I placed with them during a sale and I got four DVD-A for about $7.50 each with a total shipping/handling of about $5.
Now all I gotta do is figure out how to 'rip' DVD-As to my hard drive.
.
You're right about Decca's effort with this. I just wish HDTT would have listed the download's provenance.
Oh, and you're costing me money, jd. :-)

Tell me about money. I just recently downloaded the Heifetz.
I'm glad sound quality impressed you, even without knowing the provenance.
I've now listened all the way through and remain impressed with both the performance and the sonics, and not least the openness of the venue acoustic of the now-departed Kingsway Hall captured by the Decca mikes.
Thanks for the heads-up.

But they don't say where they got it (15ips tape or whatever).
That said, the stream from QOBUZ is VERY good!
REALLY liked the first movement.
I can see why you like it!
