and I wonder why there isn't any mention here of how pleasing music is when interpreted by brilliant choreography, by the physical representation of music through movement. The score of Adolphe Adam, though criticized by Wagner who was present on premiere night, is delightful (Wagner, reportedly, somewhat altered his criticism).
During the intermission, I wandered down to the orchestra pit and beheld the harpist busily working on tuning her harp: she said the Oregon winter weather was hell on the strings.
One thing is inarguable: live music is essential to the experience. I've attended other performances where budgetary considerations forced canned music and that effectively dampened a lot of energy.

Glad you enjoyed it; good ballet is fun to watch. But having played, oh, 15 or so runs of Giselle--so far--I dread its appearance on the schedule. Yuck.
at least you get a payday.
A couple of seasons ago, MTT programmed a suite of excerpts from Giselle on a regular SF Symphony concert. What a waste of program time! - what was he thinking?EDIT: Oh, and BTW, Adam's "O Holy Night" is one of my all time UNfavorite Christmas carols. Jeez, I hate that piece!

And thanks for the additional ballet post. My legs ached after I watched her contortions. Sheesh, the woman is a pipe-cleaner.
. . . I can vouch for Sveta's rendition with the La Scala Ballet:
I've been a fan ever since I saw her do her $145,000 watch commercial for Audemars Piguet on YT:
Thanks, guy.
. . . into an icon of our time! ;-)Anyway, if it's ballet moves you want. . .
Same as the excerpt used in "Bye Bye Birdie"! ;-)
p.s.: Sorry you won't get that 2'50" of your life back.
