Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
96.83.74.33
I'm taking the liberty of cross-posting with Vinyl, given the really excellent imaging afforded me this morning by the MartinLogan Classic 9 speakers that joined my system a couple of months back. The imaging of this recording is superb, with the violinist (Haifetz) well centered, and his slight movements as he played quite detectable. In the sweet spot, I think planars are hard to beat.
Follow Ups:
Stats, vinyl and don't forget the TUBES!
Playing good pressings thru my Accustats makes me question the worth of most of the high end systems that I have heard.
This may be the Qobuz link, for those interested.
Been stats (Acoustats) and vinyl for me since 2010.
CD player gets very, very little use.
Agreed!
I have a pair of Spectra II and the Acoustat preamp and a trans Noce - 120. All this gear has been resurected by Roy Espesito and it sounds wonderful. Also have a custom set of bi-amped RTR electristatics that I've had since the mid 70's. Both are very nice sounding to me.
I got my 2+2's new in 84, and they still give me a lot of pleasure, hard to beat the electrostat sound
I've heard notes so pure coming from Acoustat 2+2s and vintage vinyl that it truly sounds like the violinist is six feet away. As a friend says.....it's spooky.
If I ever had to buy another set of speakers they'd be ESLs. Probably won't though as I have three pairs already.
