"IF" they were local I'd sale my Duettas and snag em'.
At almost 500 lbs shipping is out of the question. Not to mention I'd want an audition first.

Great speakers, of course, but wouldn't pay anywhere near the asking price for an unrestored pair
Lake Worth, Florida. About 20 minutes from me! :o
I could be your proxy and hold my phone up for a zoom audition. :)

They're not that big!
tempting but I'll pass.
You COULD run that offer over on the FB Apogee page (where I also posted the ad) and along with a finders fee I'm sure you'll get offers from all over the world. They're crazy about them in Eastern Europe, Switzerland, etc. and will do just about anything to obtain them.

ever since I was a teen (I'm 61 now) I read stories where Jimi would buy Fender Strats 3-4 at a time and immediately give them away; often to complete strangers. I always thought that was odd, perhaps haphazard but wrote it off as rock-n-roll. The press saw this and picked up on it and it made quite a few magazine articlesIt wasn't until recently where I read a first hand account from a gentleman (on a Hendrix fb page) stated he bought a Strat from one of Jimi's roadies back in the 60's. Turns out the roadies told him Strats built by Fender varied ever so slightly year after year including (and most importantly to Jimi) their necks. If the necks didn't feel right including the contour, fret depth, their placements, etc., Jimi immediately rejected them or simply gave them away.
Personally I think Jimi would have plugged in while auditioning the divas and immediately humped and grinded and then speared them with his axe rendering them useless (and then of course pay for them).THAT'S true rock-n-roll lol
What's ironic is if the guy on fb could substantiate his story regarding that strat it would be worth 'at least' in the upper five figures if not six.
Even guitars that Jimi simply 'played' yet never owned (ie over at a friend's house and someone takes a picture of Jimi strummin' their guitar) go for anywhere between $20k-$50,000

Maybe offer to send the seller some $ just to check them out to count to the purchase price if buy them. They are truly great speakers and remember their impact when I heard 30 years ago. Integrated from top to bottom. In those days I could hear pretty well. Hope you capture the prize! (But I would not go coast to coast on this.)
I missed the boat about 3 yrs ago when a pair of Divas 'and' Scntilla's came up for sale at the same time in two different places in L.A. (about 2 hours from me).I had my plan all set for the Divas including U-haul van.
The plan was to audition them, pick them up and get them in my room before the wife got home from work, but knowing LA traffic that couldn't have happened.
Plan B was to do it ANYway, and the hell with the wife but I weaseled out of it knowing that would have been pretty low down even on my scale.
Yeah I know what everyone's thinking: 'Hey -talk to the wife, tell her $6,000 is not 'that' much and she can listen to them with me'...Ha! Not in my world would that work. My wife is not like other wives, every time she'd hear me playing them would only remind her of the money I spent - on myself (and I can't say I'd blame her).
Ultimately something inside of me said 'hold off, now is not the time'.
Not to mention dealing with a pair of 400 lb speakers with potential ribbon issues, possible divorce (well maybe not that extreme :) would not be worth it.
HOWEVER- had the speakers had the above description I wouldn't have hesitated and probably would have taken my wife with me lol..

That is hilarious!
You could have told her that Stanley Kubrick sold them to you. Anyways we are bit older now and moving 400 pounds is no joke. I topped out at 200 pound Cosmostatics and got double hernia because of my finickiness(absolute placement).
The speakers you have are still very special...(But is amazing how we still love things we love after decades. ) Diva's were something else...
Torn between best sound I ever heard being from Apogee Scintillas, or a pair of Divas (that were tri-amped with Krell KRS amplification.)
Still think the treble of the Scintilla can't be beat, but? WOWZA! :)
Agree
that way you could audition them and bring them home in the safety of your
own vehicle. A fun road trip!

well that's always in the back of a person's mind but according to the ad when it comes to auditions the owner wants the money and cleared first before he even gives his home address out. Not knocking that, seems he has good reason to do so.
For me to take off work for two weeks (the amount of time to travel Coast to Coast), rental fees, gas, aggravation etc., it'll be a lot easier just to hire a shipper.
Anyway it's all just wishful thinking.
I'm really enamored with my Duettas and certainly in no rush to get rid of them; was listening to a jazz piece last night where the drummer's ride cymbal was playing in the left rear area soundstage and he hit another cymbal and it shimmered left front of the speaker. Not even near the tweeter but more towards the middle of the main driver. I've never heard that before. Sadly I didn't get the name of the piece since I was running Pandora.
"seems he has good reason to do so" requiring money in his possession?
There is no rational reason for that. Is he on the lam?
