I noticed a pair of U1 790's for sale on Audiogon. Why did they go from 90's to 45's?
"and there's 3 PAIRS for sale!!"
All six speakers ready for use in a modest surround set-up!!
and there's 3 PAIRS for sale!!
Did you follow the links to the catalog and pricing? You'll find that explained there.Take your pick. The 45s seem louder on axis but have a smaller sweet spot. They can, however, be used in arrays with their controlled directivity. A double pair would be nice in a large room!

a pair could serve as a nice bedroom system. ;)

Yes, but maybe a nicer ceiling that that one. :)
Speakers I'm sure would sound fab regardless.
Paid a visit there years ago.
Ceiling aesthetics not critical in a test environment...
Are those 9 foot U1's?
You'd have to have a 25' wall behind them, with a 15' ceiling, to make them semi-proportional.
When I win the big one, I WILL MAKE THAT HAPPEN!
Actually, the goal for line sources to run floor to ceiling. Don't need room above them.
I met Dr. West and his wife years ago at a meeting of the Chicago Audio Society where he first introduced the Majestics.
Are those in production? I can't find any info on Soundlab U945 online.
Any chance you may know the price?
Understand the full range line is essentially a modular collection with three variables: height, frame construction and radiation angle. They custom build everything so you choose which combination you want.Jimbill responded similarly and I observed that if you scroll down to the bottom of their website, the complete catalog and 2020 pricing is available. The only spec not found below is the diaphragm area by size.
5'-870 sq in (narrower core)
6'-1790 sq in
7'-2340 sq in
8'-2758 sq in
9'-3125 sq inFor convenience, here they are:

So are the physical measurements the same for both dispersion angles?
except for the arc of the cores. Here's Brent laying down a grid:
This is great! Thank you.
For a world's best loudspeaker, the highest priced model is a pretty reasonable amount of cash.
you can trick them out a bit with custom grill cloth, frame color and I know of at least one owner who specified using Nordost Valhalla for all internal wiring.
Have it your way!
Note that the height dimension for the 845 is incorrect. It should read
94-95".
just the Majestic 945PX and the U745.
What is the frequency response on them? Have you heard them, and if so, how do they compare to your U1's?
And last, but not least, how much do they cost?
Scroll to bottom of page for full catalog and pricing.
The taller versions go a couple of hz lower and have slightly higher output capability. Have not heard any with the latest bass focus cores.
Very unlikely you'll ever find those in a house with less than 10,000 sqft.I can see those gracing a great room overlooking a lake:

Is that your Lake Tahoe cabin ???
One can always hope. The wife has always wanted an A-Frame. The best I could do is a pair of H-Frames. =)
I wish, I can barely afford the download lol...
Big Soundlabs are great. They energized the room in a very unique and wonderful musical performance.

to accomodate those monsters. Who makes them?

Here is something close, my U890's, latest backplates and Bass Focus cores.
Room is 18' x 23'

and if memory serves, recall yours were originally 790s and purchased a frame extension to support the taller core.
what is your take on the PXF cores?
Hi E-Stat,
That's correct, these were originally 790's. When updating the cores to Bass Focus I opted for the 8 ft version and had Roger West have his metal fabricator make frame extensions. I toyed with the idea of going to the 9 ft version as
they would have fit in the vaulted ceiling area but in the end decided the 8 footers were a better match for my room.
The 890 cores have more bass "slam" as it were and headroom. I'm sure some of it is due to the larger panel size.
BTW, I was also at the Chicago meeting back in 2007 that you mentioned.
I remember the Chicago event well. A number of us assisted Dr. West with assembling the 945s.
The nominally rated nine foot Sound Labs are 106" tall. Much like the stacked Acoustats are 94".
