Local Magnepan dealer in Virginia has been Gifted Listener. I wanted to listen to some of the newer models but their phone does not answer and there is no e-mail. They are not listed as a dealer on the Magnepan website anymore. Any idea as to their status?
Follow Ups:
Following multiple auditions, for which I am most grateful, I purchased a set of 1.7i's through Tom Unger at Gifted Listener. After 32 years in the business, Tom executed on a long-planned retirement path and closed the shop (though he is still monitoring any outstanding commitments). He's doing great and is working on moving closer to grandkids in the near future.
Tom was (and is) a treasure. Very patient when you wanted to audition stuff. He had the right idea about what a brick and mortar dealer should offer customers. Whenever you bought something, such as a cartridge, he would set it up and make sure your turntable was sorted. He would say, "It's all part of the service." I saw him just before he closed shop. He upgraded my Linn LP-12 with a new (to me) bearing and sub-chassis. It sounds great. Although I was an infrequent customer, I will miss him. Enjoy your retirement, Tom.
I purchased many pieces of equipment from Tom - including 2 pairs of Magnepans. Although his shop wasn't particularly close to me I would go there pretty frequently. I especially enjoyed his open house events, he had one with Wendell Diller and one with Ivor Tiefenbrun (hope I got that spelling right). It was a great place to visit and to buy.
Tom was really a nice guy. Only met him a few times many years ago. Sorry the shop has closed.

Gifted Listener closed last fall. Tom had a going out of business sale in the fall. He was in business for many years and decided to enjoy life more. I bought a few items from him last year. He is a great guy.

Another victim of COVID's dagger most likely...not surprising; Fry's, a HUGE electronics store (think of Radio Shack on steroids) folded about two months ago; actually a day or two after the Super Bowl as I was in there looking for a firestick. It was about 85% empty and only a handful of employees.
A shame, although it's by no means a high-end audio shop I spent many a lazy Saturday/Sunday browsing around in there looking at everything from albums to soldering irons to 86" big screens.

No idea if the is still around. Excellent shop tho. He is very knowledgable and does a great job setting up each room. Hope he is still around for both of your sakes. Definitely one of the better shops I have been to.
