Return to Planar Speaker Asylum

Mrs. welly and I are currently getting our house up to scratch, so that we can sell and downsize our house.
It's likely that we will end up buying a townhouse. Consequently, it is unlikely that the new residence will be suitable for my Maggie 1.7s...
Therefore, I'm looking around for an alternate solution, which would probably end up being small standmount/bookshelf speakers.
Does anyone have any suggestions for moving away from maggies in such a space, while still retaining some of the "maggie magic"?
Current system is in inmate systems (link below)

Follow Ups:
Some speakers that have had my attention are Dynaudio , Audio Physics, and Von Schweikert . Have all had great presence in a small room....
I would look for a speaker with a ribbon tweeter. Maybe ProAc small towers such as D20r or D30r depending on your room size.
FWIW I have owned both Magneplanar and Acoustat speakers in the past
There is no after Maggies!
I agree!! There is no "life" after Maggies.
But, hopefully there are Maggies in the "After-Life"
After life - Live harp music 24/7. Or live screams, groans of pain and burns. Depending on where one ends up! :)
The main issue in a smaller room is that the bass gets more uneven and unpredictable. But if you have a subwoofer or 2 and a high quality DSP measuring and correction method, that problem can mostly go away. I use Anthem ARC and it's fantastic, Dirac is also supposed to be good. Avoid the ones on mass market Japanese receivers. (The Anthem as well has great calibrated fletcher-munson correction, Dolby Volume, which is a 100% win to me and perfectly psychoacoustically calibrated).
Honestly after maggies you probably won't be satisfied if you buy another speaker type now. I got a fancy KEF Reference One (outstanding technical measurements) and it's now a bedroom speaker.
Doc was wondering your impressions on Apogees (if you've heard them).
once at the Smithsonian, decades ago.
It was out of this world "this is real" but I didn't know ribbon Maggies then.
Astonishing that nobody has been able to recreate them. I did hear an Analysis Audio at a show, it was quite good, but not good enough for the price.
I was going to listen to yours but you sold it!
I've since gotten another pair of Duetta's; picked them up locally from a gentleman in La Jolla.
You're welcome to swing by and check them out!
Thanks for the perspectives, everyone.
Certainly some food for thought.
I'll just have to wait and see what room I end up with now :-)

1. Ohm Micro Walsh Tall: had a pair in a small room. Very nice, filling, easy to setup and drive, beautiful finish in yellow maple.
2. Goldenear BRX: front ported so can be placed near wall. The KEF's you noted are rear ported and need to be partially plugged if moved back.
3. Proac Tablette 10: sealed box, LS3/5A sound.
Considering the need for stands, I'd go with the Ohms.
Thats 2 for Ohms.

if I were in a small'ish, tight room.
Near field be damned.
Been a while, but I always came away from Sonus Faber listening with positive feelings...
use one of the hinged, wall mounted versions. I use MC1s as surrounds in the HT. They would require the use of subwoofer(s) but those can be hidden away.
They can be folded flat while not in use.
great advice and beeeautiful setup!

Sorry... should also have mentioned that there is a possibility that the audio system would be located in a spare bedroom at the new place, so room is likely to be quite small (Around 3mx3m - plus or minus a bit).
That was the main rationale for suggesting bookshelf speakers. There is still the small possibility that the system could end up in the main living area, in which case I may retain the maggies...I was considering something like the Spendor Classic 4/5 or KEF LS50 Meta, since these could be located very close to wall. Another thought was the Neat Iota Alpha.
There are also a couple of Australian brands that may be candidates. As an example, I have linked one option below.

"room is likely to be quite small (Around 3mx3m - plus or minus a bit)."
Forget 1.7's in that room, that won't work. Biggest challenge in that room is bass control.

Sure, any speaker can be located close to the wall, including Maggie's, but not one will sound half decent. Most obvious is a one dimensional flat soundstage.
Not yet made up my mind about the LRS' staying or going, though. The Linton's are everything the reviews have said.
Keep both rotate as needed.

That seems to be the plan. The Linton's are very good, LRS' playing now!
Not bookshelf, but take a peak at Ohm Walsh series omnis. A very different presentation and very room filling and friendly.

There is life after Maggies? LOL
I was actually thinking about this last night. I would probably do something like a B&G Radia 520i or DIY with RE75s and some sort of OB\Isobaric type woofer.
"David S" is spot on, couldn't agree more. Set up for near-field listening 1.7's can work in a space as small as 12x12.
Sure, the 1.7 might take up a bit of space, when positioned for "optimal listening," but? It also can be quickly & rather easily pushed back out of the way, against a wall. In THAT position? They still probably sound "OK" for very casual listening & TV use. When you want "the real deal?" Just pull them forward to the best position & ENJOY! :)

My 3,6's are in a 12 x 18 room and sound good, although the bigger the room the better the sound will be !
some unevenness in the bass. But not bad, and the bass quantity is great.
