Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
108.245.106.95
I thought it interesting that I found this page on the Magnepan website, by accident. I was actually trying to find who their Chicago dealer was. I found them in Champaign IL, at Glen Poors Audio Video.Anyway I stumbled across this page on the website via the search engine, but I can't find it within the Magnepan website. Guess they put it in stealth mode, while we wait for a proper audio show to demo this concept project.
Just thought I would share it with the Planer Asylum. Thanks to all for telling me about my goof up, sorry about that.

I believe I appreciate why this prototype is called the "30.7 for condos". However this name is a misnomer and is a bit silly for those who understand the meaning.
While some may consider any condo to be a smaller, apartment like unit, that is incorrect. A condominium is a form of ownership, not an architectural style or size. Condos come in all sizes, from studio units to full sized, stand alone homes.
I do applaud Magnepan's attempt to create a high performance speaker which may appeal to those who cannot accommodate the full 30.7 configuration, or who may not want to see anything as large as those four panels in their home. But there must be a better name to convey their intent. I don't know what that might be, something like 30.7 R (restricted) or 30.7 Jr (junior) might suggest it is more of a compromise from the full 30.7 than they'd like to imply.
If this prototype does make it into production I hope they will find a better, more correctly descriptive name.

Everyone's calling it the 30.7 C. Let's just hope it doesn't suffer the fate of the Enterprise of that name. :-)
Thanks for the update on the 30.7C nomenclature Josh.
There may have been a switcharoo since you posted it but that link goes to a page for the original 30.7's rather than the 'for condos' version.
I could see that page right now. It is not new information.

I am getting the 30.7 page as well, not the Condo version.
Didn't search the site for the 10" woofer version of the 30.7
The prototype that we saw used eight 7" woofers in each of the left/right open baffle bass modules.

This is Steve Guttenburg's video about the Mini 30.7 concept project.

Near the end of SG's youtube video he says something to the effect that 'it's 2019 and have a happy 2020'.
Does that put the post and video into the category of 'fake news'?
SG recorded the video on Dec 18, 2019 at Audio Connection, Verona, NJ

I was at the store when Steve got his demo along with Herb Reichert. 20 of us had to wait patiently in another room while they had their turn, but there were nice refreshments. John Rutan is a nice guy.
It turned out to be to our advantage because a handful of us ended up going in later than some who arrived after us, and were able to have a relaxing demo and conversation with Wendell. At one point he played the Minnesota Orchestra Firebird recording ... and at 9:20 we all jumped out of our seats.
It was a small-ish room with a lot of Vicoustic multifusers, and Wendell had a thin curtain drawn across in front of the speakers ... though he did let us peak eventually.
