Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
24.12.58.9
I'm getting a buzz from the bass panels on my 20.1s sometimes. I'm bi amping using a Magtech on the bottom, It will stop if I shut the amp off or if I disconnect the crossover from the amp. Also when I turn on my preamp it gets quieter. Any ideas it seems with everything I tried that it coming from the crossover.
Thanks
Follow Ups:
If it is convenient you can swap connections from side to side and see if the problem follows. It you swap the speaker cables right for left and the problem remains, it is the speaker. If it changes move the speaker cables back and switch the inputs to the amp, left for right. If the buzzing does not follow it is the amp.
Continue back through the chain and see where it does not follow the change.
For interconnects be sure to swap the ends, input and output, one end at a time. That would identify the cable as the problem.

also banana plugs will rattle if not tightened..(I know, unlikely but wouldn't it be great if that was the cause? : )

Everything is on its own outlet amps are on their own circuit the crossover may share the circuit I am not sure. But I have unplugged everything and still get the buzz sometimes.
If this issue started without you changing anything else in your power scheme, then I could believe this is a component gone faulty.
There's not much to go haywire in a XM-44 crossover, but it's certainly possible.
Generally, I think you should have an active crossover and power amp(s) on the same circuit to hopefully avoid creating a loop.
Dave.
Are you running any equipment being used on different outlets?
