I have 1 or 4 Ohm Apogee Scintillas currently wired for 1 ohm. I'm experiencing serious fatigue like I've never experienced before (also currently own Maggie MG-3A, Wilson Watt Puppy 5.1, Thiel CS-2.3, have owned Infinity IRS Beta, Infinity Kappa 9, Yamaha NS-1000M, Maggie MG-3.6R). This happens even at relatively low levels of around 80db. Instead of wanting to turn the volume up, I constantly want to turn it down.
My system consists of Threshold S500/II, switching between Spectral DMC-6 and Classe Five preamps. Source material is Qobuz via Moon 280D DAC/streamer. Speaker cables are Velocity 12 AWG OFC, biwired.
Jon Soderberg, who used to work at Threshold told me that amp was designed to work with 1 ohm loads. But a few times it has blown a negative rail fuse but not during use, in between listening sessions. He thinks it may be oscillating.
I wanted to try a different amp first to see if that fixes the listening fatigue, probably the H2O S250 Signature. But before I spend another $2K, I thought about trying the speakers in 4 ohm mode. I can't find any info on how to do that.
Can anyone offer any advice?

Graz, ear fatigue like I've never experienced, even with H20 Signature.
Mine have 1/4 ohm bass ribbon but only 1 ohm plate. I've seen old Apogee forum posts that at least some of these versions were made. Do you know if they are true 1 ohm only or were switchable? I haven't been able to find any owners manuals or documentation for this version.
Scintillas work an amp like no other speaker - but "fatigue", please explain? Sound, amp strain only or both? Amps running hot due to high current speakers do tend to boil their supply caps requiring a refresh every few years.
Running Scintillas in 4 ohm mode (assuming 1+4 type) reduces sound quality, and comes with a huge drop in efficiency. 1 ohm mode is the real Scintilla, with a fixed 1 ohm foil (or we can supply a new 1 ohm MR resistor interface).
The ICE based H2O amps can certainly power the Scintillas, and if over driven the module is an inexpensive repair...

Mediocrity is a waste of time, energy and materials!
Hi- yeah I saw that on fb earlier. I'd give the ICE modules a shot at em'. At this point you'll only be out the $2400 until you sell the previous amp (and so on and so forth) until you land the one you want (at least that's my hifi logic lol).I wouldn't rule original Krells out even though many consider those cliche' with Apogees.
Speaking of $2400 a pair of Apogee Duetta's popped up for sale about 20 min from me. Perfect working order he said, I asked if I could audition them he said yes but to bring my own gear as he had already gotten rid of his.
It's been pouring down here and I really don't want to do that even though I WANT those bad boys. I sold mine 7 years ago and have always regretted it.
If they're still around by next weekend I might just grab them.

I have Diva's, Stages, Duetta Sigs and Scintillas and prefer the Scintillas overall, I power them with the H20-S250, other amps I have that worked well were, Bryston 6b monoblocks and Krell KSA 80 and 100, but they are room heaters as well :). JMO
