I get it, building and balancing a high-end system is challenging, it's one of the most controversy and misunderstood businesses I have run into. Looking back, 95% of my customers had invested heavily and were still searching, I've just been fortunate in having unlimited access to everything for the past 30 years.
I'm no fan of class D, to say the least, hope you can just enjoy your system. You don't HAVE to spend huge amounts to enjoy music, a well balanced moderate system won't do everything, but it should be enjoyable and do nothing wrong.

It's only a HOBBY.
True, for most people, but for me it actually was a profession.
You highlight what someone, maybe around Here has called the 2 'classes' of audio guy.
Type 'A':: Buys music and listens to his GEAR
Type 'B': Buys equipment and listens to his MUSIC
I've never had the $$$ or the inclination to be a gear churn person....
I have a Kenwood Integrated from late 70s (Model KA-7100) out in the garage right now. Very musically satisfying but I'm giving it a good going over. It sat for a long time and I'm slowing reviving it.
Too much is never enough
LOL! So true, I'm guilty of both. Long, long ago I started as a typical "type A". Luckily I "saw the light" and transformed into "type B".
Every heard Radio Shack MINIMUS 7 speakers.?
Mayb3 30$ new.....3 decades or longer ago.
But in a very heavy die cast aluminum case. 2-way, with I think a single capacitor high pass to the tweenter.
BUT? Very musically satisfyting for the 'dorm listener', which is where I first heard them. I was gien a working pair.....and just tested them yesterday on the Kenwood....
Too much is never enough
Never heard, but have "heard of". In case you didn't know, We don't have "Radio Shack" in The Netherlands (LOL).
Still, a few audio freaks over here ordered some and the quality for the price was ridiculous! some guys actually started modding them just for fun, or hooked them up in a High-end set up just to see what they could do.
Actually, it's running into things like this that helped me enjoy this business! You get something in the shop to demo, expect nothing, hit play and after 5 seconds your jaw hits the floor! Having fun, thats what it's all about.
We don't have Radio Shack HERE any more, either. Might be a few still open but the store is nothing like it was 'at peak'.
You could buy speaker drivers and a book on 'how to' and go for it. A friend build a pair which were quite excellent and sounded good.
Too much is never enough
