I've filled in the bottom 2 octaves with 5 subs spread around the room and carefully balanced in. They are not louder individually but integrate together very nicely.
What can I say, except I like bass as in bass guitar, stand up bass, pipe organ, moving air - all the fundamentals.

Follow Ups:
Story, that sounds similar to the Swarm (distributed bass system) offered by Audio Kinesis among others. I've seen several positive reports on that. I can imagine it works very nicely with Quads covering above mid bass.
I've used a standard of clean bass down to 42 Hz to cover the string bass. That misses the reaches of a pipe organ and a small number of other instruments but then not much music is written for the lowest notes. except maybe electronic.
