I had a nice talk with Wendell today and we agreed I would take over from Josh as liaison between AA and Magnepan.Thank you Josh for your considerable contributions both individual and as liaison.
I don't have a job description so I will take it as it comes. :)

As the forum that probably best serves the interests of Magnepan owners, this is an amazingly self-destructive place. Perhaps it is result of benign negligence -- i.e. little to no policing allows for maximum freedoms and thus maximum bad behavior...
Unfortunately, when bad behavior isn't policed what usually happens is that all the other players walk away, leaving the bad actors to complain to themselves; which somehow becomes far less interesting. So they too leave.
When nothing is left, no one wins, everyone loses. But for some that is a seemingly better result than letting anyone but them win.
A really sad outcome for a forum largely fueled by a company that makes highly affordable loudspeakers that make many of us very happy, but doesn't have the budget to run its own forum.

You're not saying the good people have left this forum. I've passively participated (okay, lurked...) on this forum and a few others for a number of years and find it to be generally well behaved. Very well behaved compared to others. There are occasional dust ups but the outright flame wars are a thing of past. I credit the moderators for keeping it civilized here while allowing spirited discussions.
I've seen many of the same names posting here for a long time and value their opinions. I come here to gain knowledge and would go elsewhere if it meant I had to wade through a load of bad behavior to get it.
Regards,
Steve
After so much rancor, I wonder if we could return for a moment to the topic which precipitated all these threads.
Many years ago, Leo Beranek very kindly wrote to ask my impressions of the sound in one of the symphonic concert halls designed by his firm, which had then been in use about six years.
The hall can be seen in the attached photo, with its four black squares on the wooden sides towards the back. These squares are covered in grill cloth, behind which are arrays of speakers which can be activated to subtly enhance any section of the orchestra the conductor might think necessary.
Before someone launches into a screed about the Lincoln Centre hall, the point is that the concept of acoustic enhancement of symphonic sound has been around a long time, and has been used at the discretion of the conductor, most probably without the audience's knowledge.
Acoustic enhancement has also been in use for some time at the Deutsche Staatsoper in Berlin, for example, and other instances may be found with a quick search.
I wonder how many of those who bemoan the existence of acoustic enhancement at concerts of symphonic music or opera can really be 100% certain that they have always heard the "real thing", without benefit of
any electronic assistance.
You have this right. At the MET NYC, right and left isles are loaded with miked speakers
We went over this issue with Josh. Wendell needs to either reply himself or hire a Customer Service rep and pay them to answer questions officially for Magnepan.
An official representative for the company is not allowed to peddle press releases on the forum any more than any other manufacturers. The only responses that Wendell should make would be to help in customer support or clarification of questions directly asked regarding the products.
Thank you for your understanding.
-Rod
Hi Rod,I'd assumed you were talking about posts and replies on Wendell's behalf, and that the liaison would continue to handle MUG business like helping with the Asylum AXPONA dinners, special invites to the members, and so on. That was just my personal assumption -- I haven't discussed it with Wendell or Steve -- and if it's off the table, I'm sure everyone will be glad to abide by it.
Just so you know why I asked if anyone wanted to take on the role.

So I gather you'll be transcribing phone conversations into posts?
Never happened with me, wouldn't have happened with Steve. People really do have the wrong idea here, one of the reasons I'm glad to be done with it.
I will personally try to be careful about what I say here, because if I pass on something that I know or that Wendell said, some will inevitably assume that I'm acting on his behalf.
In any case, Wendell has made it clear that anyone with a question can call him, and in addition there's the "Ask the Factory" thread on the Planar Circle for quick questions.
if you (or Steve) have not/will not be transcribing telephone discussions ("I had a nice talk with Wendell"), then you are necessarily doing exactly what Davey said you are doing: re-posting his emails.
Which is it?
?
When I reposted his emails, I said something like "Wendell passed this on" or something like that. I was merely acting as a go-between.
Anything else I wrote in the thread was mine, made at my own behest and without consultation.
Unfortunately, the awkward arrangement led to some confusion, e.g., people sometimes thought that my replies were coming from Wendell. It was easy for people to get the idea that I was acting as some kind of company representative.
That was the sole point of my response to Davey. You have no idea how tired I am of this stuff. Or maybe you do, given my generally pissed-off mood lately. :-)
Which returns to the fundamental observation I and others have made: it takes no *extra time* to type his responses here than to type them to you.
The question of "the time it takes to respond to posts" is a completely separate issue.
Haven't we sort of discussed this to death?
I've addressed this so many times I'd need to use scientific notation to count them.
In any event, it's Wendell's decision, not mine, and I'm no longer acting as the group's liaison. If you have any questions, I suggest you ask him.
you continue to acknowledge the obvious...
And you won't, so I'd say we're about even.
You have previously failed to acknowledge you are taking what Wendell typed to you and have RE-typed it here.
Time savings for Wendell: ZERO.
Sheesh, and people wonder why Wendell doesn't post here.
I'm afraid you'll have to peddle your lies elsewhere, E-Stat. I have nothing more to say.
When I reposted his emails...
What lies?
That typing here takes more time that typing to you? You make no sense.
I've disabled my email notifications and will no longer be responding to these posts.
I'm curious E-Stat. Why does it matter? Why does it matter if wendell chooses to stay out of the fray - pass on some information - and have someone else do it? If he thinks it saves him time and someone wants to do it - then so what? I'm not gonna argue that. Maybe his eyes suck or he's a lousy typist or just doesn't want to monitor or be grilled on things. But maybe he does like to pass on info. I welcome it actually as I think it makes a better forum. If someone here wants to carry the torch where is the harm.
Maybe we don't agree with everything said or supported initiatives. But again we can just change the channel can't we?
Maybe some questions go unanswered because of it. Oh well.
Why does it matter if wendell chooses to stay out of the fray - pass on some information - and have someone else do it?
The question has always been about the bogus excuse used that he "doesn't have time to post here" when typing an email to whoever takes no longer than typing here.
E-Stat, *not everyone is you.* You may be able to make a comment and leave things to play out. Not everyone can. I know that I couldn't.
You just said he's making a bogus excuse. I am sure you were sincere in what you said, but it's a good example of why, if I were in Wendell's shoes, I would have a hard time ignoring follow-ups.
Suppose someone said something about you, and it was inaccurate. As in "E-Stat doesn't really believe what he said about Wendell, he's just posting it to make trouble." Wouldn't you want to respond? I know that I would.
I can't speak for Wendell, but I know that I'd have a hard time staying out of that, and I suspect you would as well; you're just as perseverative as I am.
And these misapprehensions occur all the time. I responded to one about the "i" mod just a few days ago. Then others in the charity thread.
Anyway, Wendell has declined to do this, and no one else at Magnepan wants the job. He's invited anyone here to call him if he has a question, and Steve Ford will continue to pass things back and forth on the Planar Circle, so if anyone isn't comfortable calling, they can go there.
Haha. So what excuse does cut it? I have a full time job and at night I go home to my wife... ? Which equates to the same as the above. And you must admit - throwing one mail or conversation and having someone fairly knowledgeable follow up fielding any additional questions would cut down on anyone's time while still passing on info he wanted to send to the group... seems fairly harmless.
you want a surrogate to officially answer company directives?
Why?
'Officially'?? Company directives? This is an audio forum not a board room. Anyway. I understand you seem to want more and are just not getting it.
I understand you seem to want more and are just not getting it.
Actually not. I appreciate Mr. Diller's need to focus on the current manufacturing backlog. I would, however, prefer that his thoughts be placed here by him.
For anyone who has product questions, call the factory!
Just gonna say, I did quite a bit of research many years back about the behavior & emotional content of posts on USENET newsgroups, "bulletin boards," and other online fora related to the season. Professor confided in me that he'd seen lesser research & papers successfully defended as a Master's thesis - but I just did it out of interest & for extra credit (as I was physics & EE, not psychology.) :P
When the weather gets hot? Tempers tend to flare & the level of patience drops.
Based on all the other BS going on in the world? I think this summer (for the Northern hemisphere) is gonna be an UGLY one on "message boards."
Thanks, Steve!
And best of luck.
Rod stated (officially) below Wendell needs to speak for himself on this forum.
https://www.audioasylum.com/forums/MUG/messages/24/242706.htmlFor the life of me, I can't figure out why Wendell needs a mouthpiece on this forum. He's monitoring the forum. He's typing replies to be posted on the forum. He's doing 90% of the freaking work it would take for him to reply himself.
The guy needs an insulator????
My goodness.Dave.

"He's typing replies to be posted on the forum."
I have made myself clear on this and I will thank you not to lie in the future.
I am so out of this job.
I don't lie Josh. And I don't appreciate being accused of it.
As I said previously, you need to take a breath.
Clearly, Wendell was/is typing posts, which you in turn posted here on the forum. How you could construe an obviously true statement like that into a lie is beyond me.
Dave.
The initial posts, yes, which were clearly identified as his. Not, as I have repeatedly said, the follow ups, unless I specifically stated that they or the information I passed along came from Wendell.
About the only thing he ever did beyond posting was to call my attention to a thread -- often because there was some kind of food fight and he wanted to bring it to the attention of the mods (difficult before he made contact with Rod), sometimes because he thought that something was wrong or that someone was trolling -- and to email me if I said something wrong.
The food fights often (typically?) had nothing to do with Magnepan.
Food fights and the intricate paths of follow ups aside.....Rod seemed to indicate in his earlier post (see link) that Wendell now needs to speak for himself.
His grammar was a little funny (maybe he had one too many Fosters) but his intention seemed clear to me.
He's the head cheese here. Why is this even a discussion??Dave.
Edits: 06/04/20
No longer my concern, Dave.
Edits: 06/04/20
Not sure why Wendell would agree to continue.
Congrats and good luck.
Thanks for stepping up and good luck.
Welcome aboard, have fun.
