I have to criticize Wendell here, because he hasn't been forthcoming about the design issue. The thing that people don't understand is that he's doing it for the most absurdly generous reason imaginable, and no one would ever imagine what it is.
And of course there are trade secrets, too. Steve Ford and I literally begged him to disclose the mysterious "i" mod. Eventually, I did guess what it was, and realized why he couldn't provide specifics. Or the patent on the 30.7 C.
Sometimes he's just constrained by other issues. For example, he can't mention new models until the dealers are informed. Then, we've often been the first to know, but that might not be obvious. And of course he is director of marketing -- his role is naturally going to be more oriented towards helping people with questions and such.
But I've passed on what he's said about the kind of stuff you mention many times, not quoting him but simply as information. Things like the issues with the dealer network, the need for a wife-friendly Maggie, acoustical problems during the tour, etc. We really do hear a lot of what goes on there, even though it may not seem like it.
Follow Ups:
Josh,
They're making people (with $$$$ in their pockets) wait months and months and months to purchase speakers because production can't keep up!!
THAT is the primary issue/constraint at Magnepan right now.
Secret ingredient "i"-upgrades, new model possibilities, schmoozing goofy audiophile dealers, coy proxy commentary on online forums, etc, etc, etc, are not.
It's time for Magnepan to get with the program. If they don't, there's going to be some Chinese guy knocking on the door wanting to buy the company.
Dave.
"Coy proxy commentary"?Sorry Dave, I've had my lifetime fill of being smeared on this board.
I'd tell you what I know about the backlog, except that I won't.
As I tried to say in gentler terms, I am *out* of here as far as liasoning with Magnepan is concerned.
You can't have your cake and eat it too.
If some masochist wants to take this job, they're welcome to it, but at this point I'd sooner burn off my cock with an acetylene torch.
After all, I've been told to shut up.
And yeah, after Peter Gunn and TYU and all the shit over the years, that was the final straw.
You're always welcome to ask Wendell yourself.
Have a nice day.

I was talking about Wendell, not you.
You need to take a breath.
Dave.
Oops, sorry.
As you can see, I have a lot of steam to vent.
Josh,
You shouldn't even be building up steam. As E-stat says, (one of the few times I agree with him)....the issue isn't you.
Dave.
Thanks again for the simple suggestion with my OEM amp to remove the standoffs between board and chassis for thermal coupling.
I leave it on 24/7 and case temp runs about 40C in the garage closet. Toasty, but not a problem. Spec is heat sinks not to exceed 90C. While they run hotter than case, I'm thinking there's still plenty of room to spare.
Seems I really don't need the small fan I purchased. Maybe when in the dead of summmer...
Welcome to the collective. Resistance is futile. This isn't funny, nor is it meant to be. It's tragic and I hope it doesn't happen, but such conglomerates are gobbling up audio equipment manufacturers.
