Roger is shipping my Magtech today and I can't wait to try it. The funny thing is I was listening to the 20.1's and 7bst's last night and I can't imagine how much better they can sound although I know there is more.
We shall see!!
Thanks for the imput in a previous thread I did take the advice.

What amp did the Sanders replace?
A pair of Brystons 7bst's
Congratulations, and I will be very interested to hear your impressions with the 20s. My 1.7s love this amp, but I also bought it with the notion of some day going with bigger panels once I can secure a bigger listening environment and I didn't want to have to also step up the amp. I hold the opinion that the Magtech is enough for any Maggie, as I know I am not tapping it all.
Just a comment...
While I have never owned an amp made by Roger his amps have a long history of working superbly with speakers that present difficult loads and I would suspect that your soon to arrive amp will do a very nice job with your Maggies.
Have you also considered auditioning a pair of the most recent 7B-SST2 amps given your appreciation of the older "ST" version you currently have on hand? Having owned ST, SST and now SST2 amps I can advise that they are a definite step up from prior generations....
Which ones did you get (stereo/mono-bridged)?Are you going to biamp?
Thanks,
Tim

I got the magtech stereo version. I was looking at bi-amping or a bigger bryston (28sst) as options but the Sanders won out. Roger had stated that if I were to move up to the mono version I would just pay for the additional amp, can't beat that.
Keep us posted on how you like them with your 20.1's.
I corresponded with him a while back and he seemed to prefer using 2 of the stereo amps in vertical biamped mode over 2 of the larger bridged-monoblocks for various reasons.
His upgrade plan sounds great.
Good luck on your quest!
My son is getting one tomorrow to try on his ML-CLX's.
Best,
Bob
Let us know how he likes it.
Hi,
Stopped by his house yesterday and the amp sounded very good with his CLX's.
Drives them with no issues at all and sound is very smooth and dynamic.
It appears he will probably go with mono blocks for the future when he gets into a large room.
I think you will be happy when you get yours.
Best,
Bob
Good to hear, if they drive those big boys properly I can't wait to hear how they sound on the 20.1's, getting mine tomorrow.

Tomorrow has come and almost gone !!!
Did they arrive in one piece ?
I did get the amp yesterday, so far I am impressed, but I do want to give it some more listening time before giving a true opinion. I can say that I do notice a fuller more detailed sound, and that is right out of the box. So, so far I am impressed.
Ready to post more impressions ???
I am really interested in how they work with the 20.1's.
I still haven't listened to it as much as I wanted to but I can say that so far I can say that I am impressed. The Magtech definetly out performs the 7bst's I dont know how it would compare to the later models. The sound is much fuller and I hear things I didn't with the Bryston's. The main thing I noticed is that at medium volumes there seems to be more sound, where the Brystons seem to be needed to be cranked up.
I am not an engineer and no way know all the tech ends of things as I am a music lover who wants to get as close to live in sound as possible. I am very happy so far but feel that the mono blocks would be the final stage. The main reason I tried the Sanders is the fact that it was so highly recommmended, I was pretty happy with the Bryston's but thought there was another level and I have to say the Sanders was the next step.
Tim, do you currently have 20.1's if so what are you currently using?
Dan
Hi Dan,
It has been a while. Time for an update !!! Can you give us a more detailed review on the 20.1s ???
Thanks,
Tim
Hi Tim;
The Sanders is a keeper, this weekend I did some serious listening and played a couple of my favoite cd's. Then I hooked up the Brystons again and that's when I knew the Sanders wasn't going back. (the Brystons will be listed here soon).
Overall the Sanders has a "bigger" sound, you can tell there is much more power there even though it is only rated at 100wpc more than the Brystons. Even at lower volumes the sound is fuller and instruments and vocals are more pronounced and clearer, it almost like a sheet was lifted from the speakers.
I think I am done for a while as I am more than happy with the current set up that I have, the only other change I may make would be to try the mono's someday when I have exta money,if that ever happens, as Roger stated I would be able to upgrade to them with full credit for the stereo version, this also made my decision easier as that would be the only other change that I think I would ever make.
I am very glad to hear you like the Magtech with the 20s. My puny 1.7s certainly enjoy all that clean power, but I'm thinking ahead to retirement and getting a bigger room with bigger Maggies. I will be aiming at the 20.7s unless there is another choice then.
Have you been leaving the amp turned on? I do, and I believe it sounds best at a fully warmed up operating level.
Hi Tim;
Yes I leave it on,with the switch at the back of the amp it seems that Roger had designed it to be left on. I read your review on the Sanders, very interesting. I feel you will be happy with the Magtech with your 20.7's, I am envious since reading the review posted, in a way I'm disharted to hear that they are that much better but glad for those of you fortunate to move up to them.
I have only compared the Sanders with the Brystons and the McIntosh MC352 that I had had so I am no way an expert but after having the Magtech I am done in the pursut of "the perfect" amp.
Magman, you got a little confused as to who you were responding to, but you answered my question. It was indeed me who posted the review, but I only have 1.7s today. I also went through a Mac amp before the Sanders. No doubt the Sanders is an upgrade on many fronts, and as you say, I've arrived at my last amp as long as I own Maggies. Enjoy.

I'll post after this weekend I haven't had time to really sit and listen for a while. I had planned to get used to the Sanders a little then hook up the Bryston's again to really get a feel for the difference between the two. Keep in mind I am mainly a listener of music and I am no way an engineer.
Hi Dan,
I had 1.6's, then bought 3.6's and sold the 1.6's. Since then I acquired a few more. I have a pair of 20.1's, MC2's CC3, and Minni Mags.
I have several amps that I play with, but am currently actively biamping the 20.1's with a W4S ST-1000 amp (1140 wpc/4ohms) on the bass panels and a Mark Levinson #336 (3570/700/1400 wpc into 8/4/2ohms respectively) on the (mids/tweeters).
I just read about the Sanders amps when I got the W4S ST-1000. I would really like to compare the 2. I have tried other ICEPower ASP-1000 based amps and the W4S sounded the best to me and very close to the ML #336.
Sincerely,
Tim
I was comparing what specs I could find of your Bryston 7B STs and the MagTechs.
The MagTech has 100 wpc more and 5X-10X faster slew rate.
It definately has some serious pace when I heard it at my sons.
Best,
Bob
Actually Roger stated in one of my e-mails that the amp would produce aprox 1200wpc@4ohm
Have a blast:-)
Best Regards,
Bob
Be sure to let it run awhile before committing to your impressions. Because this amp runs so cool it takes a number of hours to reach its optimal operating temperature. I noticed a much cleaner sound on day 2. Achieving this is more important than other types of break in waiting periods. Even at optimal temperature it is barely warm. As beefy as my old Mac amp was, it ran a lot hotter than the Magtech. I have left it turned on 24x7 since last October, the only down time was upgrading the power cord.
I turn my preamp on and off however to save the tubes. I just lower the gain all the way down on the preamp and I get no complaint from the amp when I power it back on. The tubes only need 5-10 minutes to maximize their sound. My listening sessions always exceed that.
I will do so as he emailed me from work and it arrived so I am sure it will get plugged in as soon as he gets home unless the girl friend has other plans :-)
Best,
Bob
congrats! I've heard nothing but good things about that amp!
may the bridges I burn light the way....
Congrat! I believe you will be very pleased. It is an awesome-sounding piece on the larger Maggies.
