what are folks pushing them with? Obviously not their sound cards~
Are they power hungry like their siblings or do they require low to moderate power amps? Anyone using tubes? I'm thinking of using a pair in a small livingroom. I feel my Gunned Maggies (although the smallest of the MG line)may seem a bit overbearing and distracting from this view. They will undoubtably go into my main system; but "IF" I get this house this may be the room I would most likely like mini mags to occupy...
may the bridges I burn light the way....

I just read your post. I also, can not type worth squat.
I also have gunned MMG's & MG12's.
I also have the Minnies & also purchased a 2nd WDM.
I have tried both 1&2 WDM configurations.
I have used both a BAT 300xi integrated (SS not tubed) & a W4S ST1000.
Both sound equally great. And,Wendell has been very helpfull, also.
I had never heard that RIBBON TWEET, all I can say is WWWWWOOOOOWWWW,
even that small, it is amazing.
To much info to impart here. It has already taken me 20 min. to type
this(see 1st sentance) I'd be willing to discuss further via phone.
Email your # to me & @ what time would be good. I am in PA. So, EDT.
Sorry I did not sign in, my password is written down at home. I lurk

If I do not hear back, I hope you enjoy the MINNIES as much as I have.
GOOD LUCK,

No, sound card won't do it. When I heard them they were drivin by 1k Bryston amps and were explosive. The dynamics were beyond belief for the size. They work beyond the desktop......
nicely placed to either side of the mini's, to serve as a bit of tricksy bass boost. Such screens would be totally "tunable" and movable, and attractive in the sun, in any event. put a listening chair facing that window, and man, nice.
The room, ya know, is more than its dimensions, and I love a good view like that + music. it can be magic sometimes.

Hey, cool, the "post a message" box is back!
I'd use a big mother amp. The Minis are omnis rather than line sources so fall off at 1/R^2, you'll be several dB further down at a normal listening distance than you would with the tall line sources, with perhaps a bit more room gain. Magnepan used a 2000 watt/channel Bryston at their CES demo.
For nearfield desktop listening, the situation is reversed, you're listening up close so power requirements should be modest.
I think I read someplace that Magnepan originally developed the mini-Maggie for VIP rooms at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. (Coincidentally, I'm looking at that hotel out my office window now) While they seem to be a bit hesitant to market them that way, they do seem designed to fill modest rooms with sound - I bet your living room could be made to sound quite good. I'm not sure what they drive them with at the Mandalay Bay, but you might call to find out.
Another consideration is that (as I understand it), most of the power of a speaker is needed to drive the low frequency. So, maybe you would need to worry less about driving the speakers, and more about the woofer. The woofer is essential the bass section from a 20.1, right? Since driving that woofer is most of the work that is required to drive a 20.1, I'm thinking it's something you'll need to take seriously.
Let us all know how these work out!

That's the MMC-2 motorized on-walls, they mention it on their site. The story with the Minis is that they were designed as near field desktop speakers. In the far field, their power response isn't as good as that of the larger models. There's an excellent article on using the Mini Maggies in a larger room in the link.
The Minis are fed off the woofer, though I suppose you could biamp them. BTW, the DWM woofers are part of a 20.1 woofer, they aren't as big and they don't go as deep.
