Return to Planar Speaker Asylum
Hi there!I wondered if there are people out there that use replacement power cords on their ML's and what your experiences are with these.
I am considering using MIT Z-Cord II power cords, which seem to work extremely well with my ML Scenario/Cinema. Any other recommendations?

Garmtz, I have Granite Audio Power Cords throughout my system and a PS Audio P600 with Martin-Logan reQuests. I have two 8' Granite Cords running from my reQuests into the P600 and the results are amazing. They replaced 8' Harmonic Technology Cords a few months back and the difference is stunning.I also had a 15 amp PS Audio Ultimate Outlet and Mini Lab Cables, which I returned after 30 days, in favor of the Granite gear. Not only were the Granite Cords less expensive than the PS Audio solution, but the resolution of my system was clearly superior.
I would give Don a call at Granite Audio and try out his Cords as they have a money-back guarantee...
Thanks pf,I have sent Granite Audio a mail. because I doubt that these power cords are available with European IEC connectors. If it's such a good product, they should think of bringing the product to The Netherlands also!

So what do the Granite double balun cords cost? Where can I get more information? I know nothing about them. The guys at ML told me that changing PC's wouldn't make a difference. Nonetheless, I played with a few and settled on a Monarchy Audio PC that is based on a patented Hitachi cord/design. I'm running CLS1's and Kinergatics SW800 sub towers. Thanks in advance for any insight.
Thank you, Mart.

They house a toroidal balun on each end of the cable. Said owner had them hooked up on all his gear in & out of a PS Audio P600. But as good as that is I'd still add a VersaLab:Red-Roller ferite beed on the M-L power cord only.

Thanks for the response Mart. Why do you think a VersaLab Red-Roller ferite beed on the M-L power cord is the best? Have you tried other power cords than the ones that come with the speakers?
Thanks again for any info, I appreciate it.
I've often discounted ferrite beeds as they dull the sound on components (I use AudioPrism:WaveGuides instead) but on ESL's lower dynamic current requirements the results are stunning. VersaLabs is nothing special except they are the largest beeds I know of. This extra impedence helps restrict dynamic current. Thus, it essentially filters out everything that these speakers don't need or want. I actually haven't tried these on the Granite Audio cords which filter out other artifacts that sould be equally stunning, but I have tried them on AudioQuest, XLO, and AudioMagic power cords. If I could afford a M-L system, I'd think ferrite beeds are an absolute requirement. Also, I've read great things about Bybee quantum speaker cable filters on ESLs.
So, what is your system? I see that you didn't list it in your registration.

Hi Mart,I added my system to the registration. You can take a look at it if you want.
I added a ferrite bead to the power cables of my Parasound amp and it reduced "grunge" but not dynamics, which some filtered cables did. I will try those beads on my MLs however and see what happens.
Thanks!
You may want to try an AudioPrism:WaveGuide if you can barrow one. I have it on all my component power cords. It removes the grain & lowers the noise floor without removing any life. By that I refer to that overly processed dull sound of cheap overdamped passive preamps. Just don't try & save money buy putting one on the power conditioner power cord instead, or put more than one power cord through the hole between these magnetic halfs. I've found that the sound deteriorates in other aspects as a little stealing from Peter to pay Paul takes place.
Nice TT, I'd see if you can get some Siltech interconnects for that link. I think they're the nutz for low-level signals. I bought some used 1.5m SQ-38 or somthing like that & found they were ideally suited to go from my bro's TT to his X-PSU powered X-LP. Although, I wonder if a Mullard tube upgrade on an X-10D would be ever better to warmly boost the signal or as an X-LP output stage like a good DAC. However, I read somewhere (I think it was at AR) that a EE had to meld a X-24K with a X-10D in order to get the right sound. Simply placing one behind the other was insufficient. Anyway, I wonder if just bypassing the jacks & soldering in an interconnect would suffice. I know my brother stripped a section of the siltech & soldered the interconnect internal wires to the tonearm headshell leads. So, it went from there directly to the X-LP uninterupted. If I mapped the unit on a schematic maybe I could bypass some buffer stages to remove extra stages
However, in your case, I'd buy a few X10-Ds & hardwire sets between the Lexicon & Parasound. And by hardwire, I mean to split the RedDawn interconnects bypass the MF steel jacks altogether.
BTW, how does the Parasound handle the ESLs? I look at your M-L specs & compared to Parasound's & wonder how on earth it handles the treble.
Hey, are those Scenerio ESLs able to elevate above the woofer's sonic path?
