For those that have the later 3 series, do you prefer mounting the Crossover box directly to the speaker using the short connectors provided by Magnepan, or using jumpers to connect it.

When I put sandbags on the top of my boxes which were on the floor, the improvement was pretty big which surprised me. At least one of them did have a bad solder joint (which I had merely twisted together), so that could be why.
Now I use active so those are no longer in use.
IMO, putting sandbags on top of the XO box is entirely a different tweak from what Neo was talking about ... which is to isolate the XO box from the floor??
In your example, you are damping the vibrations of the XO case top. This is a known good tweak for many component cases - and even speaker cabinets.
Neo is talking about preventing vibrations generated in the floor from entering the XO box and disturbing the components inside. These vibrations get into the floor from the panel feet ... as the panels are being caused to vibrate by the mylar flapping.

I thought that he was talking about putting them on something like the floor rather than attached directly to the speakers themselves. I was suggesting that given the large improvement that I heard w/ them already on carpeted concrete and then puttin sandbags on top without even damping inside the box, then the move from panels to floor should be a significant improvement.

If the crossovers are sensitive to vibration, you should use other components. There are components that are insensitive to vibration. Many expensive audiophile grade capactiors are way to sensitive! (You can even use some of them as small loudspeakers, connect them in series with a 2-4 Ohm resistor across the output of a poweramp) I like it hardwired as far as possible. Mangepan use too many connectors of low quality. Many of them can be soldered. The banana connectors can be replaced by high quality ones, I prefer the insulated Multi Contact (SEB4-F sockets and SLS425-SW/A or SLS425-SI, depending on the application). Very good fit, not to exepensive and no risk of shorting.

Those steel posts are kind of junky. It is much better sound-wise and structurally to get the crossover box off the back and use a nice set of jumpers.
Hope this helps!
