Hi Steve,No ... I think that's because most Naim owners are brainwashed members of the "Linn/Naim" cult! :-)) (This only "allows" certain combinations of gear!! :-)) )
My 2 x (old) Naim 250s drove my IIIAs very well in the passive setup and then I bought a Naim 180 (160?) for the ribbons, when I went 3-way active.
However, in a direct comparison of one of my Naim 250s with an AKSA, the AKSA proved to be the better-sounding amp ... so I built 3 AKSAs. The money I got for my Naim gear paid for the AKSAs!! :-))

I'd call it more like a religion. :-)I just got a chance to borrow a Butler 2250 amp from a friend over the weekend and I'm currently using it on the bass panels. I moved my VTL MB-125's up to the mids/hi's (I know, I should be tri-amping). Being a tube guy, I really like this combination. The Butler has that warm, tube-like sound but with 400 wpc into 4 ohms, it grabs the bass panels like a vice grips and doesn't break a sweat even at high volumes.
I would have liked to heard your IIIA's with Naim, I can't imagine how fast and PRATty that must have sounded. I prefer the warmth and texture of tubes, particularly with maggies. Maybe if I get a Butler, I can use the 125's on the mids and my ST-85 on top. Glorious!

yes I agree (religion! :-)) )!! The Naims do not sound as good as my current amps, though!Wow, 400w into 4 ohms on the bass panels - and then your VTLs on the mids & highs - must sound pretty fantastic!
I'm envious and jeez I'm looking forward to getting my system set up again!! Only about 8 weeks, I hope, and we'll be back in our renovated house and all my vinyl and gear will be back in its rightful place!! :-)) I don't know about you, Stateside, but all the tradesmen here are rushing to finish their many jobs before Christmas - then they take their annual leave! So we won't actually do the move until mid-Jan.
Happy listening,
