In a major shift, Germany will send weapons to UkraineThe news came shortly after the German economy and climate ministry said in a Saturday evening statement that Germany is allowing the Netherlands to ship 400 German-made anti-tank weapons to Ukraine. The government has also approved the shipment of 9 D-30 howitzers and ammunition originally from Estonia.
Germany is supposedly shipping 1,000 javelin anti-tank missiles to the Ukraine.
In addition, the German economy and climate ministry said Saturday that Germany will send 14 armored vehicles and up to 10,000 tons of fuel to Ukraine.

From the grandmaster's perspective
its fairly easy to jump the track on a tank. surprised nobody has done this yet. got to attack the supply convoys.
If Putin were assassinated, would this solve the problem?
Surely if the desire is great enough one can get to this guy. He is the master of having his fellow Russians poisoned so surely the CIA or British Intelligence can send a 007 type to have this scum ball taken out?
Might be difficult.
Putin is totally paranoid and doesn't let anybody near him.
His bodyguard would have to do it.
I hypothesized below that we might need to decapitate the regime. That would require killing 5 or 6 people at a minimum. It certainly can be done. The results in my opinion would be uncertain but I doubt that it would lead to a nuclear confrontation.
from 2015
But this ain't Hollywood, and there won't be any SEAL team swimming up sewers at night.
Actually Hollywood has come up with many films that predated real-world actions - I mean a bunch of airplane hijacking movies inspired 9/11 no doubt.
So would it really be that difficult to take one man out with the sheer might of the entire western military world? It's kind of pathetic that the US spends like half their budget on a military that outspends the next 10+ countries combined and a stealthy CIA and Seal team that they can's sneak in a hit squad to take that guy out. I mean seriously what the heck are we wasting all this money?
I was under the impression you were Canadian. Dual citizenship? ;-)
Anyways . . . I'm not a military expert but I have to believe that if you or me can come up with something like a plan to take out Putin, don't you think they can think of the same thing and take extraordinary measures to prevent that including super vetting of anyone who comes within a km or so of him. Everything he puts in or on his body is also vetted. He ain't drinking any polonium laced tea or handling novichok treated doorknobs. Another consideration: If Snowden was Russian, had leaked Russian secrets and was in exile somewhere in the US , do you think he would have lasted long. I don't. Any action to take out Putin would have to come from someone deep inside his circle of acquaintances and would have to be someone he completely trusted. About the only scenario I can imagine would be one of his trusted oligarch buddies gets pissed at losing money and turns on him unexpectedly. But that's pretty Hollywood too.
I think the truth is that if you assassinate world leaders it sets a precedent that they will assassinate your leader.
But I think there are some rifles that have a 2-mile range or something.
This clip is from the West Wing - while it is fictional - when you watch it think about JFK and Ronald Regan as you watch it. Then apply it.
In the show - the fictional president Barlett was shot and his daughter kidnapped by terrorists. This was after Bartlett has the leader of a foreign nation executed.
Putin hasn't been outside his lavish bunker for years.
His speeches are pre-recorded like Osama bin Laden's were.
In this troubled time, no one is getting near Putin except the most trusted of his colleagues. There will be no live public appearances If anything occurs in the near term, it will be an inside job.

"My sanctions are as effective/impactful as Russian tanks, missiles and bullets..." [sans Nord Stream 1, that one doesn't count]
My own reading is that he is unhinged and losing his mental capacity - not that he ever had much of it, but he is behaving in a hysterical manner, similar to the last few month of Adolf Hitler in his bunker. The decision to send the troops into Ukraine was one of those idiotic ones.
So I am sure there are many, who don't like his decisions, and are looking for a way of getting rid of him.
If it happens, it will take the traditional soviet form - he will resign for health reasons.
Gives me an excuse to read his Twitter [thanks!... was getting bored.].
First couple dozen of his posts:
1. Retweet. Ukrainian woman detained in Moscow for a trifle. Meanwhile Putin extravagantly wastes money on his own parades and honors.
2. Retweets news coverage of war in Ukraine. 3 hours long. Shows captured Russian soldiers and the realities of the war.
3. Retweets news of an oligarch, Abramovich, surrendering control of his British sports team.
4. Retweets the same video listed in #2
5. Retweets a story about a young Russian soldier that's been captured, the news of which is communicated to the soldier's father. Meanwhile Russia's Ministry of Defense isn't disclosing any detail about captured Russian soldiers.
6. Retweet. English translation of story in #5.
7. Retweets about a Russian TV propagandist who has a British passport and an apartment in London.
8. Retweets a plea for Soldier's Mothers, which if I remember correctly is a grass roots social organization advocating for news and the safety of their soldier children. Includes a video interview with a captured Russian soldier.
9. Retweet of a letter from a Russian who feels great guilt for Russia's prosecuting a war against Ukraine. Makes strong assertions about how Putin has wrecked Russia.
10. Tweet of another 3 hour news clip covering the war in Ukraine. Good quality.
11. Tweet of 8 minute video; news summary of day 3 of Russian invasion.
12. Video tweet which is repeated above in #8 of captured Russian soldier.
13. Retweet about Russian State Censorship organization demanding that newspapers print only state authorized materials.
14. A retweet stating that Navalny has already spent 404 days in prison.
15. Retweeting a 7 minute tribute about Boris Nemtsov and his work, one year before he was killed.
16. Tweeting about Navalny's 5th day in court; new bogus charges have been leveled against him.
17. Retweet. The Russian censorship agency has limited the public's access to Facebook.
18. Tweets another video news link; 5 hours long with extensive coverage of war in Ukraine.
19. Brief retweet. At Navalny's new trial some bogus witness blabs out supposedly incriminating information.
20. Retweet; day 5 of Navalny's new trial with photo of him giving testimony.
21. Retweet. Navalny's trial a sham; prosecutor is a thief and a stooge. Similar comment about Putin.
22. Retweet. Describes scene at Navalny's trial with prosecutor and judge shouting.
23. Retweet. Prosecutor tells Navalny he can't call the judge a swindler. Navalny replies we must call things by their proper name. Appended is a Navalny video exposing corruption among Russian officials. Quite entertaining! Nobody does this stuff better than Navalny.
24. Retweet. Witnesses against Navalny in his new trial have been exhausted. But the judge is unhappy and wants to bring in more accusers.Well, that was kind of fun! First time I've ever read Navalny's twitter account with any depth.

You don't know or realize who Navalny really is. He dreams of imperial Russia as much as Putin does
Real long article though, you better get the Cliff Notes version. But you can slim down his cause to a single word: anti-corruption. He's real good at that. Exposed Putin and oligarchs relentlessly (that's why he's in prison). Would have easily trounced Putin in any free presidential election. Why he returned to Russia after being poisoned is beyond my comprehension; maybe it's better to be a martyr behind bars that a free man abroad? Other weird stuff... Navalny is still active with his twitter account, and I can't figure out how the guards let him keep his cell phone.
"Being a member of the Duma or Senate is a pretty cushy number - you are well-paid, you can make an occasional speech if you wish, but you are basically there to vote for the Kremlin's decisions, and, above all, you can extort as many bribes as you can cope with .../... These are the people to target - because when several thousand of the people Putin actually depends on begin to feel the consequences of his policies in their personal lives, there will be a groundswell of discontent.
Most of these people love to travel to Europe and the US. They educate their children here. They own properties here. The members of the Russian elite, their families and children, love to swan around on yachts, ski slopes and fine hotels in the west, posting pictures of themselves on Instagram. If they are denied visas to travel to the west - if they are effectively imprisoned in Russia - it will not take long for the discontent to permeate the entire political class. The message to them will be clear: if you want to enjoy your western lifestyles, you need a new leader who respects western values; until then, you're banned...
I'd guess Putin dies a natural death.
The last one to go out the hard way was Nicholas II?
Even Malenkov was allowed a natural death?
For as long as the Ukrainians can have access to the Polish border they will be supplied.
It is actually amazing how poorly prepared the russians are. Their solders are all inexperienced, as they only serve one year, and their planners apparently suck too... their operation around the Antonov airport is the shining example of awful planning.
Possibly the Kremlin rat himself planned it.
Several videos of armor unsupported by infantry, even in urban centers. One shows a column of T-72s moving down an urban street, at speed, at least one with a Molotov cocktail burning on the upper deck. No infantry in sight, not even APC support. Other videos of MBTs with thatched sticks on the turret in an attempt to give protection from Javelin missiles. Solitary Russian jets flying CAS missions; WTF?
I couldn't believe my eyes.
*briefly out of self-imposed retirement*
There is an old joke about a Russian guy who was given two billiard balls: he broke one and lost the other one.
I have seen the vehicles without any support, not just tanks, but many other kinds, and I hope they keep paying for their incompetence.
It takes about four months to poorly train troops by US standards. I went through it during Viet Nam, and it seemed inadequate to me. It was more on the job training after official training. That got a lot of people killed unnecessarily.
Most of those russian soldiers in Ukraine now are young and poorly trained.
They did not know they were going into another country, they just went to some "training".
Many of them will be killed... unfortunately the human shit that sent them to death is not going to be affected... at least not in the short term.
for Ukrainians fighting capacity and believed the country to be so divided that they didn't send their best troops but they are coming now. I imagine the heads will roll in Russian command after the war.
Putin sent in a few thousand Chechens which had me worried but on the news here they just said that a Chechen column had been stopped in their advance, forced back and their leader killed.
The Ukranians are doing one hell of a job! Kudos and respect to them.
Are for or against that ?
Germany does not have Javelin anti tank missiles to send.
What they are sending are either MILAN 3, a co-production with France or MELLS which Germany co-produces with Israel.
50 launchers and 400 rockets
They did say 500 anti tank missiles plus rocket propelled grenades.
Panzerfaust would fall into the latter category.
That scum definitely bite much more than he can chew. The resistance is only going to grow, and there will be more and more weapons delivered, so he is never going to get Ukraine back into his circle.
For the umpteenth time, Ukraine will not win with 'resistance'. They have to be on OFFENSE. Aggressively go after the enemy wherever it is. Are there still people who don't get that?
****
We are inclusive and diverse. But dissent will not be tolerated.
Al Jazeera has quite a few reporters on the ground and the smallest horse in the race. Well i'd be surprised if they'd had as much as a donkey in it.
Anyway according to them the Ukranians are doing an excellent job with the Javelins they have and the NLAWs (in-laws?) the UK sent them and taking out a lot of tanks and armoured vehicles.
There are certainly many images of burning tanks and other vehicles.
I hope the Ukrainian resistance gets more organized. The Russians are leaving large pockets of Ukrainian military behind, as they are doing their dash for Kiev, and considering how exposed the Russian troops are on the local roads I fully expect their losses to mount.
Forget about this defense stance! ATTACK THE ENEMY AGGRESSOR!Who doesn't get that?!
****
We are inclusive and diverse. But dissent will not be tolerated.

I am for dethroning Putin. I am not supporting killing Russian or Ukrainian people. It doesn't sound like all Russians are behind Putin.
That being said, if the Russians are on Ukrainian soil, they should expect to be targeted with everything the Ukrainians can get their hands on. Unlike many, I am a firm believer in sovereign borders. You can't have countries without them as many Americans will finally learn.
The thing that has me scratching my head is the phrase "... Germany is allowing the Netherlands to ship ...". Why does the Netherlands need permission from Germany for anything unless the article means Germany is offering their roadways and/or fly-over air space. Can always fly around Germany's air space.

I guess they are just trying to erase their past and be good neighbor to everyone.
Before the German re-armament and NATO membership the Allies insisted on strict rules as to what Germany was allowed to do with their weapons and soldiers.
German soldiers were not allowed to be stationed or active anywhere outside of NATO territory and German weapons were not allowed to be sent or sold to crisis zones.
So why does Trump kiss his ass /

Trump was not pro Ukraine or Nato. Putin had no worries that Ukraine might join Nato under Trump. Trump was weak. Then came Biden who promotes Nato and understands its strengths. Putin felt he had to respond now because Ukraine wanted in on Nato and under Biden they might have found a pathway.
Trump made the NATO deadbeats (read: leaches) pay their delinquent dues and step up to the plate. Something no other POTUS did.
He realized they were NOT meeting their financial obligations and treated them accordingly.

You believe Orange-man good propagandaPutin isn't invading Ukraine because of Biden or Trump.
"Russian President Vladimir Putin's fixation on Ukraine has more recent roots, but it is still rooted primarily in geopolitical considerations that intersect with the United States only tangentially, when at all.../... And that means it's useful to walk through the ways in which this conflict has been intertwined through our politics over the past decade — particularly as it concerns former president Donald Trump.../...Putin wanted an American president who would weaken or ignore U.S. alliances, and he soon enjoyed the benefits of having one.../...Once Trump was out of office, Putin again turned his attention toward solidifying Russian control over Ukraine. I didn't post that 13-year-old thing as you have been told before. I am anti-Trump and anti-Trumpers not Anti-American. Thankfully GOOD Americans like Mitt Romney still belong to the REAL Republican party and there are a few Patriots in the Republican party left who love America.Hey Carl you can kiss my ass - I could give a rat's ass what Trump DEPLORABLES like you think - you are TRAITORS - a bunch of crybaby snowflake fascist cowards too busy burning books than reading them. here is an excerpt from your post about the president in office in 2019

"She's not my type"
That pretty much says all you need to know. Slime associates with slime."
rga, how would you interpret that?
Above are all public statements by the hero you worship without question or criticism.
Good REAL Americans questions all their leaders including the ones they voted for. Real Americans criticize players on their own team
Only COWARDS do not criticize the people they vote for - like you - you are too chicken to say something bad about the Donald or admit you made a mistake in judgement that you got conned by a con man. Nope you just can't do it.

Trump has said some really weird things about his daughter - about underage girls "if you were older I'd date you" to a 10-year-old.
He's a creepy slime and it's on tape - he's looking at her sexually - it's not rocket science dude and if you too one single Psychology course on sexual deviance you would be able to see the signs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRAPLodRnd4
With all his various comments on women combined with his associations with Epstein, combined with his comments on underage girls and his own daughter - I would not be surprised. But he's also innocent until proven guilty and he's been proven guilty of enough OTHER things that you SHOULD BE appalled.
Stealing from Children's Charities and Veterans - why does that not bother you? If you are a so-called Patriot and you support someone who STEALS from Vets then you're a slime ball.
Good ole Trump - remember when he called his daughter "a fine piece of ass?" - yeah it probably didn't make it onto Fox or OAN so you never saw it.

I guess you have not been paying attention in Tenessee - Republicans - it's always the Republicans. Trump is a Republican. Republicans are always the ones who are about banning books - and since they don't stand up and say it is wrong then they are guilty of "going along with book banning". Silence can be deafening.
I don't live in China - I live in Hong Kong - I can read any books in Hong Kong. Albeit books critical of china directly have not been allowed - similar to books in Thailand critical of the king. Books are not banned in Canada - and when people have tried to ban books in Canada - it is always Conservatives who try to ban them. Conservatives are Canada's version of Republicans. It's always the Republicans on team "book burning." I'd be embarrassed to be on that team - you are on that team - why do you go along with it?
China bans books - that is bad. That is very bad. So maybe you should call out Republicans and Trumpers for wanting to follow in China's and Russia's footsteps? I remember when Reagan Republicans cared about free speech and free press. What happened?
Maybe we both actually agree on something - book banning is bad. So why is it the left who has to say it - why are you and other Republicans not writing letters to Tennessee saying "I am a Trump supporter and life long Republican and I demand that you not ban books. It is a person's freedom of choice to read about books they wish to read about. Where are you on this? The Tennesse school boards and others who are Trump voters won't listen to lefties on the matter - they might listen to YOU. Why are YOU not standing up to them - why are you just going along with them? And when a Mitt Romney or Liz Cheney stands up in defiance on the batcrap crazy - it is them who are renounced! Sad.
Fortunately, in Hong Kong, I can read MAUS and Animal Farm and 1984. Maybe not for too much longer but then I will leave HK if and when that time comes that it finally falls.
I teach at a Catholic School, down the road is a Mormon church, and there are plenty of Mosques in Hong Kong.
"According to the 2016 census, Islam is practised by 4.1% of the population of Hong Kong, or about 300,000 Muslims. Of this number, 50,000 are Chinese, 150,000 are Indonesians and 30,000 are Pakistanis, with the rest from other parts of the world. The vast majority of Muslims in Hong Kong are Sunni."
Might be a decent idea to actually know the difference between Hong Kong and China. Every time one of you Deliverance Trumpette crackpots mentions Xie you prove yourselves to be ignorant morons.
And let's put freedom into some context shall we
The overall ranking of Freedom worldwide is divided into two sections
Personal freedom involves indicators such as the fairness of the laws, personal safety, freedom of movement and assembly, freedom of religion, freedom to run for political office, freedom of the press, freedom of speech and expression, and freedom to pursue same-sex relationships or obtain a divorce.
Economic freedom observes indicators such as the size of the government and degree of overbearance it imposes, tax and interest rates, the impartiality of the courts and integrity of the legal system, freedom to participate in financial markets and/or trade internationally, minimum wage, the cost of starting a business, the presence or absence of conscription (obligatory government work), and general freedom to prosper financially without intervention from the government or economic authority.
The 12 Categories of the Human Freedom Index:
Rule of Law
Security and Safety
Movement
Religion
Association, Assembly, and Civil Society
Expression and Information
Identity and Relationships
Size of Government
Legal System and Property Rights
Access to Sound Money
Freedom to Trade Internationally
Regulation
As of 2022, Hong Kong ranks as number 30th freest country in the world. China ranks 150th. The United States ranks 15th. The top ten are all "socialism/capitalism high safety net, pro middle class and worker rights nations."
Switzerland — 9.11
New Zealand — 9.01
Denmark — 8.98
Estonia — 8.91
Ireland — 8.90
Canada — 8.85
Finland — 8.85
Australia — 8.84
Sweden — 8.83
Luxembourg — 8.80
Hong Kong still ranks ahead of other notable nations such as Poland, France, Panama, South Korea, Israel, Hungary, Thailand, The Philippines and for "personal freedom" ranks way ahead of the United States. https://worldpopulationreview.com/country-rankings/freedom-index-by-country
Tenessee as you must have missed it as they probably don't report it on Fox.
You are conflating the actions of some republicans with the actions of Trump. You failed to point out a single book that Trump was trying to ban, because, there is NONE.Also, Republicans are NOT trying to ban books. You are conflating "age-appropriate-content" with book banning. Not the same thing. Kindergarten and pre-school kids do NOT need to learn about fisting and other adult topics until they are mature enough.
Also, school is NOT THE PLACE for this crap. Reading, writing, arithmetic. The parents can teach them about the Birds & the Bees or in alternative environments the Bees and the Bees.
Jeeze, let kids have their childhood before trying to indoctrinate them with adult topics they are not mature enough to cope with.
Again, you are conflating book banning with age appropriate material. Would you take your 5-year-old son to a SF bathhouse for a double soapie or your 5 year old daughter to a strip club on amateur night ? If not, then why do you want this taught to children in public schools ??? If you would, your are absolutely sick.
Sorry for having to point out your misconceptions so colorfully, but that is the twisted argument you are trying to make. Children need their childhoods, unadulterated.

They have banned the books in high school - not kindergarten - school librarians don't bring in the books you mention. Please list the books that has content as you suggest "SF bathhouse for a double soapie or your 5 year old daughter to a strip club on amateur night." That is your imagination and a weird one to bring up.
The books that were banned included MAUS, Harry Potter, To Kill a Mockingbird and 1984 and Lord of the Flies. Why can't a 14-year-old read those books? They are not forced to read them - it is a CHOICE to go to a library and CHOOSE to take that book out or not. Parents can tell their kids not to take these books out and not to read them. If you as a parent don't want your kid to read Harry Potter on religious grounds that is totally fine by me but why are you saying it is okay for YOU and your elected officials trying to ban Harry Potter so that my kid also can't read the books? One of the approved children's books in grade 4 is called "The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe." Jehovah's Witnesses do not want their kids reading that novel. So teachers accommodate those students on religious grounds. So the 28/30 kids who are not Jehovah's Witnesses to that novel as a novel study and another book is chosen for the remaining 2 students. The book is in the school library and the public library.
Those are the books getting banned by your party and this isn't the first region of the country to try it. It is always ALWAYS Republicans trying to ban George Orwell.
If you are worried about age-restricted books which is a valid concern that is fine - you separate the books into sections - 14 and up or 11-13 or under 11 etc. Problem is that kids like to rebel so when you ban something they then tend to want to know why and then seek it out more than they would otherwise (drugs/alcohol are examples). Make it illegal and they want to do it even more. Since MAUS was banned it because a number one bestseller having the exact opposite effect of the Tennessee dimwits - they banned it so now millions of kids are reading the very book they banned.
If the dummies said nothing then the one copy of it would sit in the high school library and maybe be taken out 3 times all year.
Hmm, I think I'll reverse my view - keep banning them!

As far as I know, Trump didn't do it in office like the Kennedy's, nor did he go after interns and use them as human humidors in the oval orifice.
He did it in his personal life prior to taking political office and didn't use it as his only qualification for political office, unlike HUH.
