Yesterday, it was all-over my TV news that the CDC recommends that we move toward more "aggressive" masking--going with N95 or KN95 masks.
Today, again on the morning TV news, the CDC has apparently issued a warning that ~60% of all KN95 masks being sold in the US are counterfeit, and not effective.
Would someone please make up my mind? A good start would be with their own.

I doubt that anyone does, on purpose.
Well the OP seems to be confused about two different things. An aggressive masking policy from the CDC recommending n95 and kn95, has nothing to do with the CDC warning us about counterfeit masks.

need to be careful about the masks you buy. What would you have the authority do? Fail to advocate for masking or fail to advise of the proliferation of bad masks?
Geesh...

They know that people will not follow any proper mask protocol anyway. So these PSAs are not helping.
Theoretically you could at least protect yourself with the right mask. Those masks are not real easy to breath through.
The news I saw said the CDC was thinking about the recommendation of N95s.
I can think of several reasons why they didn't.
Just off the top of my head:
1) they may not want to see a massive rush on N95s/KN95s causing a shortage to hospital workers an lab people working on vaccines.
2) There are a lot of fakes out there.
3) And possibly most important, for N95s to be effective, the need to be FITTED for the specific user. Also, if you have a beard, N95s as such are pretty much useless.

counterfeit products?
Perhaps we've finally found something we can hang on Fauci that will stick. =:-0
...we allegedly have other agencies to "police" that aspect of the issue.
The FDA has also just released a warning against unapproved Covid home-test kits that are here and being sold. I don't have the link handy, but it's not hard to find. Their results are apparently not accurate (either way).
But the overall concept of "do this", but wait, "be careful about it", because half of all the supplies are "bogus", is a bit disconcerting. No wonder why people are questioning masking recommendations and/or testing mandates.
Again--STILL NO NATIONAL COVID POLICY.

a national MANDATE.
The policy is to let the states set their own covid policies. Some cities are making policies and mandates that other cities in the same state aren't agreeing on. It's all over the place. Many months ago I suggested people should take care of themselves. That's the best policy, and you don't need some bogus leader to tell you what to do.
mask, vaccinate, social distance.
If not for a conservative Supreme Court, we'd most likely have those national mandates you clearly support, right?
...the CDC is neither a governing body nor a regulatory agency. They have ZERO ability to institute or enforce any policy/mandate.
The President put forth a mandate, that is now being battled-out in the courts, but sure isn't making much of an effort to defend it. Putting it out there scored a lot of points, but now (when it counts), it's kind of like "well, it's out of my hands--I tried".

President has repeatedly supported them over the past year; it's Red state governors/attorneys general who have fought them.I think I know your issue: you're in agreement with the CDC, but extremely frustrated by the government's inability to see them followed. You are a conservative. You can't admit to yourself that YOUR political agents are the problem. Now, YOUR conservative SCOTUS has made a serious and ill-fated decision. Again, you have a serious problem, cognitive dissonance of the most obvious sort.
So? You blame those who don't have any ability whatsoever to do more than they have. Would Joe's hourly messaging have impacted the SCOTUS? Even one attorney general or governor?
Face it, conservatives are responsible. ONLY they.

Trying to use OSHA as the vehicle for the mandate was a stretch IMO, but it was the only tool available.
Biden took his best shot using OSHA premise, but I have a feeling he knew it was a long shot and that's why there was not a more impassioned defense mounted.
well that was the strategy for dealing with big tobacco and public smoking
which was actually a great success paired with advertising restrictions
so it makes a lot of sense to use those tools again

and I don't need the government to tell me what to do. When a mask mandate was in place, we had people defying the mandate. I try to keep away from crazies, and so far haven't been infected. My youngest sister died from Covid last year, before the vaccine was available to her. She wasn't very healthy to begin with and didn't isolate as she should have with her health problems.

...if you don't wear it "properly" anyways. First thing that has to go is any/all facial hair. I've worked in research labs and spent a lot of time in and around chemical plants with just masks, and fitted respirators--where your life actually does depend on it. A whole box of N100 masks won't do you any good if you look like Charlie Daniels or Billy Gibbons.

Any facility with H2S required everyone to be fitted with respirators- which requires no beards. I don't remember if anyone actually quit over it. Some probably got transferred.
Brandon's gang and the CDC don't want to stop the virus.
The Wuhan lab will release more Covid variants with scary names and the jab pushers will insist on average civilians taking another booster shot that will not work.

If that is true, it is because y'all took your eyes off the ball. Your country was far too busy making enemies of each other that you forgot that there is a real enemy out there. Not too smart, but I suppose y'all do the best you can with what you have.

At least it would be a good excuse.
But the reality is that we keep voting for hope and change, yet nothing changes. Majorities vote one way, they vote the other way, and it doesn't matter.
And it's not a bug; it's a feature. Our system was designed for the start to do nothing except and unless there's a demand from those at the top of the food chain.

If they were stupid enough to "take over" the US government, the only way Americans would notice--maybe--is that things started to run smoother. Infrastructure would actually get built. Our defense budget would shrink. The Empire would wither on the vine. Maybe we wouldn't put as many people in prison.
Works for me.

Since the stuff we buy is made in China, in factories powered by coal (when they can get power at all), we're essentially using coal power right now.
But it's more than the global warming bullshit. We incarcerate a way higher percentage of our population than China does. The FBI can search your house without a warrant. The NSA records every electronic communication 24/7.
If you travel with cash, cops can and will take it away from you. It's legal for police officers to pull you over on a pretext just to have a look at what you're doing. Your 4th Amendment protections don't apply.
We even have a de facto one party system. "Democrat" and "Republican" are just brand names, wholly-owned subsidiaries of the same billionaire donors. One every important issue, the parties are in lockstep.
I'm 100% certain that China could secretly take over the entire Federal government and none of us would ever notice the difference.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
Voting rights.
Build Back Better.
Jan 6th investigation.
Most Dems would say those are critical issues to resolve: how many Republicans Congress people do?
One or two Dems stand in the way of these--- you're going to argue the rest cynically are going along because there's little hope of meaningful movement on them? I hope that's not your position. Meanwhile, an entire party with ZERO crossing the aisle is arrayed on the other side.
Manchin and Sinema, in actuality, are not Dems... You appear to be trying to fit anything into your preconceived notion that the sky has fallen, it's Doomsday!
As far as China: no. It ain't the same. You want to move about? Get permission. You speak out about anything that opposes the party line, you're going to jail, ZERO representation and a possibility you'll disappear. We both know you're not serious about this. It sounds cool and edgy, but it's ultimately destructive, it destroys hope and faith in our system--- say, that's exactly what Oath Keepers do!
Voting rights? You sure as hell BETTER vote if you're in China! And who controls the elections? The CCP in China, the 1% and the corporations in the US. And there you are, thrilled with your illusory "choice" here in the US! LOL - Go for it, tin!
Build Back Better? Gee, tin, for some reason, I have more faith that China will accomplish this FAR better (and faster) than we will.
January 6th Investigation? The latest circus for the gullible masses.
Ironic that you should also mention free speech / free press in China. I seem to recall that we have someone wasting away in Belmarsh Prison right now, and another person who was saved from a similar fate by an "authoritarian" leader, whose country we're doing our best to surround with nukes. Not to mention that our speech on the internet is controlled by unelected Silicon Valley officials - a dandy state of affairs which you (and some others here) seem to think is the way things should be.

The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
...they always say.
But they never actually do. Not anything, unless it gets the full stamp of approval from corporate and wealthy donors first.
Sinema and Manchin are providing cover for all but a few of them. Don't kid yourself. Manchin is especially vulnerable to persuasion considering that his daughter was caught on tape attempting to fix Epipen prices with the CEO of a rival drug maker. No prosecution, of course, just the usual golden parachute. I'll bet a little DoJ involvement would bring Manchin around but of course that's not going to happen.
The voting rights thing is just another dog and pony show. "We tried, but too bad."
Anything worthwhile originally in Bernie Sanders' version of BBB has been stripped out. In its current form, it's a pathetic waste of money and effort.
The Jan 6th investigation will go exactly nowhere. It should be plain that the Dems are running out the clock until November, at which point the GOP is going to win the House and it's all over now, Baby Blue.

. . . a couple of the Repub congressmen are going to try to make Trump Speaker of the House. (It is NOT required for the Speaker of the House to be an elected congressman.) Probably won't be successful - but you never know! ;-)

Look at the obscene wealth these "elected representatives" accumulate while doing little to nothing for average citizens.
They issue empty platitudes to the middle class and pander to POC's + LGBTQ but really just use them to stay in power or sell us out to Beijing.

Just that following them will be difficult because the US has outsourced this as well as many other critical supplies to dubious sources as that all powerful "invisible hand" allocates resources elsewhere.
d
US companies outsourced critical supplies to keep profits high and consumer prices acceptable. US govt did nothing to prevent this. US population didn't give a rat's ass one way or the other as to sourcing ...until a predicted but unprepared for pandemic upset supply chains which in turn affected consumption habits. All three entities bear some responsibility for our present situation.
It was quite obvious from the very beginning that we weren't prepared for a pandemic, even though concerns were being raised and discussed at the POTUS level as recently as the Obama administration. That's a failing of government. Ironically, some of the people who scream loudest about how government isn't doing good enough are the same people who don't want the government doing anything. People tend to bitch about whoever they didn't vote for, just because.
tasked a group to come up with a playbook for pandemic response. Obama then refined it, and it was part of national security playbook. the problem is, orangeman, being a malignant narcissist (MalNar), cannot follow any procedures handed down from someone she/he personally dislikes...-even if it was the instructions for boiling water...-MalNars all exhibit this trait.
once you skip a gear at the beginning, its very difficult to get it back on track
nobody gets it..MalNars can never be in position of power. PERIOD.
there should be less than 5,000 people dead from Covid.
parties have approached the pandemic. Can you admit that? I notice you sidestep the intervening administration when chastising the current and Obama administrations.
...that ALL THINGS COVID should be taken out of their hands and mandated at the Federal level. It never should have been passed/pawned-off to the State and local levels to start with. The current administration's handling of the pandemic is NO BETTER than the last.

If you don't like it, vote democratic ticket. This goes to many issues, from marijuana to abortion to Covid mandates. Strange how conservative now equates to government restrictions on many areas of choice that progressives favor.
