"Low-income was highly associated with overweight/obese status (p < 0.0001), whereas the effect of race/ethnicity (p = 0.27) and its interaction (p = 0.23) with low-income were not statistically significant. For every 1% increase in low-income, there was a 1.17% increase in overweight/obese status".
Now, the interesting question is why are our poor--- and this holds true for poor nations, as well--- becoming more obese?
Another interesting question is why don't the same who blame obesity on the poor also just say the hell with them over the fentanyl and oxycodone epidemics?
Isn't it more humane, and actually wiser from an economic standpoint, to find out the reasons and address those instead of hating on these folks? I don't understand the rage against the losers in our capitalist system. Really, where does it come from?
Follow Ups:
Where do you get this hate nonsense? I'm certainly not sympathetic towards anyone reproducing beyond their means. It's one thing to not be able to provide for yourself and suffer the consequences. It's quite another to then reproduce and inflict poverty and despair on an innocent child.
I feel for those with oxycodone dependency who became addicted through ill advised or over prescribed use of pain medication. Not a whit of sympathy for anyone who thought fentanyl sounded like a good recreational party drug. That's just Darwinian.

harshest sense, is to fail to see one would be in their exact position if one were they.
The alternative, of course, is to think one is a superior being to them.
There certainly are those who have risen above dire poverty, the foster care system, horrible schools, lethal neighborhoods, and attained some success. We call those people, "exceptions."
I have a hard time understanding how punishing the children of those who have made "poor choices" benefits anyone? It certainly isn't a Christian outlook, unless I missed the parts of the Bible where Jesus quizzed the poor about why the hell they needed Him.
Perhaps you're projecting as I hardly imagine myself "a superior being". At the same time I do not condone those who have child after child while accepting, even feeling entitled to, all manner of public assistance. I've always been a fan of cutting off any welfare beyond one child, maybe two when I'm feeling generous.
BTW, I've been atheist since the age of reason and have only a vague knowledge of the bible. Of course I would defend anyones right to worship whomever they choose.
Certainly, you must know "welfare queen" was a political creation, much as the Willie Horton idiocy?Young men and women of ALL classes engage in sex: it's rather a natural thing. If sex education, affordable birth control, and abortion are not available, guess what results? If health care for poor mom's isn't available, guess what the babies' health outcomes are?
Yeah, you can be righteous and judgmental and say, "They shouldn't have kids!" But young people always have and always will have sex. Why don't middle-class girls have as many kids? Perhaps the fact that their families can afford abortions? Perhaps it's because they have healthier home lives? That they have access to birth control? Statistics show they certainly aren't having less sex.
Blame never solved anything. For a health care issue, one needs a health care solution. Preaching NEVER has solved anything. Nor has judging.

We're never going to agree on this issue and that doesn't mean you are right.
From personal observation, I can't say for certain, but I'd guess that's true, judging from a person's appearance (clothing, etc.).
BTW, spandek pants should be limited to size 10 and smaller. Just sayin'.
"I don't understand the rage against the losers in our capitalist system."
Where is your supposed "rage"?, other than in your mind.
