Also, there aren't very many of them on local roads. People around here, if they buy a Mazda, they buy one of the SUVs.
I don't think it's a paint issue so much as it is that the previous generation Mazda 3 had places around the rear wheel well where road dirt collected. It's up to the owner to flush all that out when they wash the car but most people don't bother. Really, the probably don't know to do it.
If you don't make sure the wheel arches are clean, they'll rust from inside the wheel well through to the car's outer skin.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
Follow Ups:
Do you guys have brushless car washes in the States? Where you drive your car into the bay and there is a power washer that shoots up from the ground and washes the undercarriage. I used those and also the manual power washer car washes.
Good to know regardless and to make sure Mazda has solved the problem before buying. Of course, Hyundai has a bit of a bad dealer reputation the US according to Savagegeese and plenty of engine failures and recalls. So rust versus engines.
I'd probably stick to Honda - get the model without the oil dilution problem (that will kill the life of the engine) - avoid the 1.5l turbo.
Best car I ever had was a Civic hatchback. My friend had a Mazda 323 and it felt like a go cart compared to the Civic.
but you still have to take the car through.
The engine failure thing stinks but Hyundai has made good on the problem.
Agree that the Honda is probably the best of the bunch.
