So, does this also mean that the Biden administration or State Department or Pentagon or the CIA or some combination of the aforementioned were deluding themselves?Or?
I suspect that at least the CIA knew that the early collapse of the Afghan Army in Kabul was a distinct possibility, but somewhere in the line of command, a decision, quite possibly a political one, was made to not cause a panic in Kabul by starting evacuations earlier or sending in military reinforcements, so they did nothing, gambling that the Afghan Army protecting Kabul would not collapse. If that was the case, they gambled and lost. And here we are.

No Americans have died in combat in Afghanistan in over a year. No Americans have killed during this withdrawal. No Americans have been left behind.
And we're finally getting the hell out, like we should have done once Bin Laden scarpered.
We're in a much better place than we were 5 years ago.
All of which is beside the point. Who knew what when is irrelevant. There was no way the ending wasn't going to be chaotic.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
