IMHO it's pretty far-fetch -- not logically impossible but highly improbable. To clarify, IMHO there probably is life throughout the cosmos but we can't get there from here and vice versa.

huh ... does he still run around comparing humans with lobsters?
or maybe he finally got off the psychoactive prescriptions
ah well, I guess he's entertaining enough if you're of the mindset
clean your room! stay in your lane!
make a point, say something funny, contribute in some way.
Because they have a need to believe in something and God is not enough in a barbaric "modern world"? I mean, I'm sure extraterrestrials are there, in the endless enormity of Cosmos. And we will never gonna meet them because of this endless enormity of Cosmos. And, it is precisely as God has designed it :)
which God? the entire concept of god arose from barbarism, nothing modern
now, this Cosmos you speak of, that arose out of scientific inquiry
there's incompatibility built right into the whole paradigm, isn't there!
so your post is probably a lot more 'meta' than you intended
or maybe you're just as smart as I suspect
with regards,
sure thing man ... is YOUR room clean?
that probably went over your head, sorry
be well,
make a point, say something funny, contribute in some way.
you're stuttering ... or stammering ... maybe both
my point was that you linked to a well know self promoting hypocritical RW 'self-help' nutjob with [I guess] the intention of his making a point that you yourself can't articulate ... that you need it explained just shows that either you're too lazy to vett who you linked to as some form of 'authority' on the topic or you did it with a sense of humor to be enjoined, so I did *wink*
let's go with 'sense of humor' it makes you look better
if that's not it what's YOUR point?
you are spectacularly unlikeable and humorless. I bet there's not one person on earth who really likes you, including you.
it took you all of those hours to come up with THAT?
in any event, thank you for following my posts here on the AA
your reply is greatly appreciated and I look forward to hearing from you again
be well,

because it's fun. Imagine what might be out there. Reality as we perceive it is so boring.
If boring, you havent' been looking.
Too much is never enough
I think it is because their lives are so boring.
I don't believe this bending of time or any of that with near C or greater than C travel. I believe if you go that fast you just go that fast. They say that certain things about GPS prove it but they do not.
So assuming they can get here, why ? Look at our media. We all need diapers, pills for depression, back braces, all kinds of shit. They might say "I don't know what their disease is but I don't want to catch it". They see stupidity on a grand scale, fruitless wars etc.

Humanity is down to the last couple yards of rope and once that's gone....that's IT.
Any ancestors will be living a middle ages standard of living. Books nobody can read with higher math nobody can manage. Some photos which are unbelievable. Rumors. Stories. Legends. And every once in a while? Somebody looking thru the wreckage finds a 500 or 1000 year old Ceramic Grill that still works....
The neat part of this is that it doesn't matter IF they are 'here' or 'not'. They won't show themselves for a variety of non-intervention reasons. And IF they are here, we have missed the path in modern physics making FTL possible.....and affordable.
Too much is never enough
I don't know. Why?
People believe all kinds of nonsense all the time. Flying saucers? Ghosts? Miracle cures? Extra sensory perception? You'd think common sense would preclude people from believing in such improbable stuff, but it ain't so. Junk-quality thinking seems to be as commonplace as evidence-based thought. Probably because we are not fact gathering machines, but rather we act upon intuition, incomplete information, and half-baked hunches. Sometimes we survive well enough even when we engage in sub-optimal thinking, so brain-rot gets continually fed rather than excised. Higher education tends to weed out the less credible stuff. Some people are just born with uncommonly good sense; they can easily spot the stupid stuff. On the other side of things are gullible people. Or people who are poorly informed. Or people without any quality of education. Or people stuck in damaged patterns of thought. But trying to line up people by the quality of their minds starts to feel pretty brutal. I feel better tolerating the beliefs of flying saucer aficionados. Rather than tagging them as delusional.

Talk about junk quality thinking. Are you in complete denial? Are you not aware of the recent UFO videos that the Pentagon has stated are real, not to mention a ton of good to excellent other videos?
There are two sets of UFO photos from the Navy, said to be real by the Pentagon all over the net, one looks like a saucer,IMHO.

No such thing as 'common sense'.....you'd see more of it were it actually 'common'.
Higher education swaps ONE set of prejucices for another.
Don't forget? There is a reason the military won't 'hire' you if your IQ is below about 80, give or take.

that we all suffer from to some degree on some topics is knowing what you don't know. And then admitting that you don't know in order to not 'lose' a position. In that above quadrant - Richard Dawkins, Ricky Gervais, and I are all bottom right.
The "dangerous" quadrant that causes most of the world's problems are all the people in the top left quadrant because they are so sure they are correct that they often kill to follow their scripture. They use God in the photo but that can also apply to economic or social systems as well.
Believing the earth is flat may be dumb but it probably isn't all that harmful. Believing Aliens could exist is mathematically viable so yes there is a likelihood aliens exist. Far less likely they would have the technological expertise to make it to earth - albeit not impossible. And then even if they could make it here - eesh - why would they. Any intelligent life out there should steer clear of humans - the cruelest most sadistic monsters on this planet.
WE, the nice humans, should show the Aliens this video - they'll avoid this planet like the plague.

'we are not fact gathering machines'
all humans are exactly that
even bad facts, and the less mature or worldly mistake feelings for facts
it's far easier to verify feelings than facts, no objectivity is required
feelings can be reinforced through personal filters, manipulated by others
that's where both righteousness is derived and Dunning-Kruger thrives
some are taught how to think not what to think, others learn it by experiential life lessons if they're self aware enough to pay attention and reflect ... mentoring goes far in this regard, genetics IS a factor
you describe those outside of this paradigm well, disappointment abounds
I read through your post a few times before deciding to comment
at the risk of being misconstrued I don't seek to correct you
but there's a certain sense of battered empathy communicated
try not to lose that empathy, it can lead to bitterness
that impacts our accuracy when evaluating people
the wise evaluate others, they don't judge until that's been evaluated
don't judge me, just sayin'
I know, blah, blah, blah ... pretty sure that's how shit works though
personal choice or food for thought?
<> ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ <>
The guy was completely bonkers if you got him talking about flying saucers. Like opening up a can of worms. Hard to listen to. Best just to politely excuse yourself from discussion. And it would have been cruel to disillusion him, as he was so enthusiastic on the subject. Because he was an honest hard-working man. And nothing else was obviously wrong with him.
Maybe it's okay for a people to have a screw loose here or there. Preposterous belief can be a quirky thing when it stays pleasant, not necessarily a sign of damaged intellect. But when a flying saucer nutcase gets repeatedly hostile, maybe then it's time to write him a ticket to the looney bin.
'maybe then it's time to write him a ticket to the looney bin'
if your personal evaluation leads to that judgement that's an unassailable choice
either take care of yourself or you can't offer care to others
best regards,
If I substitute the word politics or audio / audiophile for "...flying saucer..." in your post, it still makes perfect sense.
Where the hell have you been v? You are making a fool out of yourself.

There's no way to know how likely it is. What will people be doing in a million years? Look at what we were doing 200 years ago. Nobody can predict the distant future and nobody could possibly guess what some space aliens a million years more advanced than us might be able to do.
good point ... 'man' has a hard enough time dealing with his own
let alone the other self aware creatures on the planet
'we' always project our form and style of consciousness onto the observed
how will we do when WE are the observed if we're even noticed?
maybe SETI wasn't such a good idea after all?
SETI is bs. It's just a cover up for what is obviously happening.
"It was zero threat, right from the start, it was zero threat" Alfred E. Neuman
obviously, if it's obvious ...
it's not
can I ask a personal question?
have you ever bonded with another species?
I mean, communication on an emotional plane with a pet?
dog? cat? pain in the ass chatty bird?
never mind, I wouldn't trust your answer and you think this is a set up
whatever, take care man, hit the D

best regards,
Given an infinitely expanding universe the odds have to favor other life forms and eventually other humanoid life forms and then other humanoid life forms that evolved similarly to ours.At that point it's kind of fun thinking about human-like life forms exploring the universe searching out similar beings, either to form alliances with or to conquer.
But that kind of assumes creatures like us are universally at the top of the food chain. In the big picture we might find far more intelligent creatures exist that would manage us and display us in their zoos. Or maybe more or less intelligent life forms capable, because of either technology or physical attributes, of using us as a viable food source.
Who knows?

There was a time when that was true of places we have now gone to, other side of the continent, the moon, Mars. Considering the progress man has made in the last few hundred years, I don't even know why anyone thinks that it might be far fetched for an intelligent life form, years advanced, couldn't have gotten here.
The so desperately wish thing is something you are conjuring. Apparently, if someone thinks something counter to your train of thought, it is desperate because you see it as a stretch.

I will spend some checking out Bert and I. Looks like funny stuff.
Not logically impossible. But a stretch.

No idea.

Some people need a good story to offset the horrors humanity has inflicted on itself and so-called inferior species. Religion is no different.
Either Klaatu is going to land some day and show us all how to jolly well do things right or the xenomorph from Alien is going to give us our just desserts.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
.
e.g., Millie Vanillie :)
"Horse sense is the thing a horse has which keeps it from betting on people. "

Not sure you can count Milli Vanilli as a bona fide conspiracy given that producer/manager Frank Farian had previous ie Boney M for which he picked members by looks and he never made a secret of that.
All male voices on every Boney M song were done by Farian himself, one of the girls equally never sang a single note on any of the records.
Any deficiencies were covered up by a number of 'backing' singers during live shows.
But all this was widely known at the time and Farian was greatly surprised when his methods were roundly condemned in the case of MV.
Two things to ponder. One, given the obvious odds, there ARE other inhabited worlds. Two, we're not likely to ever meet them.
That's some weird stuff, dude.
