Laughing...
but he certainly can.
But it's Bill & Melinda Gates so I figure they are both going to end up being winners. If they can't grow as a couple maybe they can grow as singles. Good luck to them.
Literally!
Money won't be an issue on this one. Plenty to go around, even for the lawyers.
I assume you've heard of a prenuptial agreement?
bah! IMO gossip about the mega rich is boring
now, those neighbors two doors down .... ?
i don't think they have a prenup, but as Cut-Throat says, they have plenty to go around.
TMZ says they don't ... they have a nearly perfect track record so ...
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, that is.
all the best,

Sounds like joint custody.
With 66,000-square-foot, they may not have seen each other for years.

I've been in TOWNS with less than 60k sq/ft.....
I've looked at lots of homes / home plans an get 'itcy' over about 2200 square feet.
Too much is never enough
On the other hand, 66,000 SF is a cottage compared to Windsor Castle, Kensington Palace, Palais du Versailles, etc., etc., etc.
It would be interesting to look up the sizes of the Vanderbilt estate, the Kennedy estate, the Rockefeller estate.
I think a person will find that there are MANY "homes" around the world which are MUCH larger than Bill Gates' home. It would also be interesting to get a glimpse of how the wealthy live in China, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Iran, etc., etc., etc.
Just keeping it in perspective.

Biltmore Estate is a historic house museum and tourist attraction in Asheville, North Carolina. Biltmore House, the main residence, is a Châteauesque-style mansion built for George Washington Vanderbilt II between 1889 and 1895 and is the largest privately owned house in the United States, at 178,926 square feet ...

what with building costs going into the stratosphere.Have no idea what half a million board feet of lumber would cost today, but I'm guessing it's a bunch.
Fewer bathrooms in our humble fauxdobe abode, but we had to bump our house insurance up to near seven figures due to increasing re-build estimates.
Still, if you look at the total net worth of the Gate's vs. their investment in their home, they are living in a double-wide compared to the rest of us.

Give or take around $850,000.00
So looking at it that way then folks with near 0 net worth living on the public dime are living in the Biltmore Estate compared to the rest of us.
Do you think they're out to steal your trailer?
I thought Ivan303's take on Bill Gates wealth to home value was interesting and I simply applied the perspective to people with near 0 net worth. No implication of any social, political, economic or whatever else worry was intended. My comment was directly a response to his wordsmanship, nothing more.
It was intended to be completely innocuous.

That kind of disgusting excess is for someone who doesn't expect to get out much. He's a celebrity, easily identifiable, controversial, and as many people hate him as like him. Might as well build an inner kingdom and settle in.
the Foundation is closed ... the Mule out front should have told you
The so-called "foundation" was a joke in poor taste. BG could have sunk his money in Our country...betterment of Americans.

The Aristocrats!
Relying on private citizens is ineffective.
...BG operates a global business, and has amassed his great fortune from pockets around the globe, so why shouldn't the foundation address global initiatives/issues?
