Not exactly an audio topic but will use audio as an example
So I've been headfi'ing off-and-on for some years now, but recently I got back into it after I really started to enjoy IEM's [in ear monitors]. There are TONS of different head gear. So starting out cheap 20-bucks I was like wow this is great, so I stepped up my game to the $100 mark...fantastic!
There were times when I purchased some expensive head gear, $500 mark or so but I really get more fun out of cheap stuff. I can buy 3-4 different IEM's for the price of ONE for $500 and have 5 times the fun. Granted I do have a set of planars for 2.5k but I truly get the most fun out of low priced bargins.
Sometimes going cheep can be good....

Follow Ups:
I bought $100 PSB in-ears.
I love their full sized M4U headphones, have 3 pairs.
But the PSB in-ears simply would not fit me no matter which rubber shrouds I tried.
So they are purely dust collectors now for me.
If art interprets our dreams, the computer executes them in the guise of programs!
I'm lucky, I must have very average sized ears!
I almost always fit the middle sized ones.
Last year I bought Klipsch bluetooth in ears and there was a profound difference in performance depending on the depth/snugness of insertion. I use the smallest ones with them.

About 10 years ago I bought a bargain set that were in the $80 range, but rated with others in the $200-300 range.
Still have them, and they are still good - had to change the jack a couple of times though.
Not much buyer remorse at the lower end of the scale. Making big purchases is too stressful these days ;-)

This is true.
Expectations are high for big $ purchases, cheap stuff you're happy that it even works, if it works good or sounds good its great.
Plus if it dies its no big deal.
I knew a guy who only purchased very old cars $1k or less, he'd put tops another 1K into them and if they last for a year or so he was happy. The guy was a millionaire via inheritance and investment. He real joy was Toy trains, he'd travel the country and spend thousands on collectible trains.

What I find interesting is the number of high-priced IEMs listed for sale on the used market. I can't see spending thousands (or even hundreds) of dollars on earphones (versus true headphones), but I think it is truly disgusting to think that people would buy them used. It is like buying used hearing aids. Ears are VERY unsanitary.
Rampaging hillbillies didn't work, Donnie. You're still gone. What else do you have?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Or used underwear.....
Although there is a market for dirty/used womens underwear...not that I have or will admit to buying them...:-)
I get what you're saying....
To each his own I guess. I get *more fun* with Shure 535s using custom sleeves. :)
I have some Shure IEM's they do sound great...great texture and realism to the sound...great isolation too.
Which ones?
I cannot minimize the value of having sleeves made from your own ear impressions. Just like all the pros do.
physically pressed them into my ears. Not a good look...
The cheap ones of course 425's...I have a bunch of IEM's all fun listening. Of course none can touch my planars not even the 525's.
My Audeze LCDi4's are head and shoulders above all my IEM's but they are all fun to listen too.
Mine are used for mobile or in bedroom. As for planars, I'd much rather listen to the Sound Labs. ;)
Sound Labs good choice...lots of variety out there, something for everyone.
Most of my IEM's are for mobile as well, usually paired to some kind of DAP.
Two pairs from Amazon for a few ticks less than twenty bucks.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
And of course Booze if you're a drinker.But then there is a lower limit...for example Wild Irish Rose my be a little too cheap.
And maybe even women....Jeff Bezos paid $35 Billion to divorce his wife...imagine how many 'dates' he could have gotten for a fraction of the cost. Sometimes 'renting' is better than 'owning'
In college, I was schooled on Canadian Ace. It came in half gallon bottles and cost less than a buck. Brewed in downtown Hammonton, N.J.
The cheaper the booze the worse the hangover.
Did you ever drink Ripple in college? Holy crap! And cheap sherry - I still remember one evening we drank a bunch of it in the dorm (a big no-no), and then went ice skating. Cold? What cold? In February in Green Bay? Nah! The next day was a different story, though.
On the other hand, when I (rarely) buy vodka, I buy McCormick. In Dallas, it's about $6.79 for a liter at the right stores. An inlaw buys vodka regularly, and he buys UV or other similarly priced stuff. Frankly, I don't taste much difference, other than the UV barely has any taste. 'Course, he drinks it straight, whereas I mix mine.
Cheap food can be good. Taco Casa is great.
