Cincy is a graveyard for any high first round pick. Ki-Jana Carter comes to mind. Season ending injury in his rookie season, was never the same back.

Follow Ups:
Missed his entire rookie season.
Carter played for Joe Paterno, and IMO Paterno had a tendency to wear his running backs out before they turned pro. Guys like Franco Harris and Curt Warner (the running back who played for Seattle, not the QB) were the exception rather than the rule.
There's a good longform article on football players that suffer torn knee ligaments. According to many doctors, the surgical techniques have advanced to the point that the repaired knee is usually better than it was before. The problem is the athlete's mental state after the injury. They're often afraid to test the repaired knee or they change the way they play in order to protect that knee.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
Good memory. He got hurt in the first preseason game that season. I think we can all agree though, a guy does not want to be a high draft pick of the Bungles. At least they are not as dysfunctional as the Jets. HaJCarney

Period. And they got screwed out of the national championship because the sports writers decided it was time to give Tom Osbourne his lifetime achievement award.
At one point, they were ranked No. 1 in all the polls, had beaten Michigan at Michigan, blew out OSU 63-14, and were beating the snot out of Indiana when Paterno pulled his starters with 10 minutes left in the game. The Hoosiers scored two garbage time touchdowns, and Penn State dropped to No. 2. I've never been able to take FBS football seriously since.
I remember Nebraska scoring the game- and championship-winning touchdown against Miami that year by running right over Ray Lewis, too.
The Bengals are like the Pittsburgh Pirates of the NFL. Satisfied with mediocrity as long as it's profitable. The other NFL owners want to win the Super Bowl. They might not have the competence to run a sports franchise but they still want to win.
The Bengals are more like the Pirates. If they do win, that's fine, but it isn't really necessary.
More and more baseball teams are following the Pirates' model, too. The Cubs are getting ready to dump some of their best players.

I absolutely agree that Penn St would have mopped the floor with the huskers had they played. They were just on another level that year from anybody else in college football. It was an outright crime, period.
