Cabinets to arrive 8/13. We removed several walls to open the space.

We are keeping a somewhat similar layout, but opening it up into the room.
This is the plan - walls gone and the ceiling running straight through.

That looks great. It's amazing how much more useful it is to have fewer walls. :)
Our project blended the kitchen and family room spaces (via fewer walls) for a much more open feel. Which also means that the Acoustats in the HT will enjoy a larger space that is closer to the "Golden Ratio" for dimensions. First pic was original with kitchen behind. To the right is a hallway that simply wastes space.
Second is rendering where you see the changes. Outside (left) wall was moved back about five feet and a massive brick fireplace was removed. It will now have an efficient direct vent gas unit. Magnepan MC1 surrounds will be placed (ok, poor video editing!). And the island was rendered without the granite tops. Blue squares are windows with remote control electronic tinting. Really too small for window treatments.
This is is, just starting out :-O

We have a split kitchen arrangement with the main fridge is in the sun room sans water with a smaller one in the dining room.
And we observe de-shoeing from the dusty work area from bedroom, office and hallway.
I've had to convince the Mrs we will survive.
We've nearly finished the downstairs bathroom. For the next 2 - 3 weeks we have no kitchen and no main bathroom.
Such fun!

I was wondering what the 2 cut ins were!
That's a big job.
The render looks really good - you've got a big open space to play with.
We're a bit boxed in and can't the footprint too much.
We have 3m ceilings (9'10") and I wanted floor to ceiling cabinets - More storage, cleaner lines, no dust.
But the Mrs voted me down.
Oh well, win some, lose some.
Now, just last night, she's changed her mind.
The cabinets are already 90% made...
I can see extras....
Probably worth it though.
