Yes, Bob Dylan is on the list.

Too much is never enough
Had the same response to Tittny Spears years ago when she sang solo without any voice gimmicks. I thought " oh well another fraud exposed there goes her career" guess I should stop thinking so much...

I call it the Churn.
Wife watches some of those singing shows. Idle American and maybe something else. I listen in sometimes but am NOT impressed. Most would have trouble getting booked on a cruise ship, even today. ONE or maybe TWO per season have what it takes to go the distance but rarely take top honors.
Too much is never enough
I don't mind the idea of those talent search shows in the sense that people may have talent and have no idea where to get stared. There are some fine singers out there that may never hit on a career. Not just in music. John Kennedy Toole wrote the wonderful "A Confederacy of Dunces" - apparently so distraught that no one wanted to publish him he committed suicide. Year later his mother pushed the book to publishers - it got published and wound up winning the Pulitzer. In music - Eva Cassidy might be an example - while alive she was basically a nobody. In death - and with Sting hearing her version of Fields of Gold (what he calls the definitive version of his song" he took her music to a UK radio station and they played it on the radio - the radio station was flooded with requests.
So those talent shows basically put you in the sight-lines of everyone. The main problem with them appears to me that it is just looking for a pop star. And that doesn't come from covering other singers. You need a performance and your own songs. And arguably good looks.
I watched a few of those shows years back - maybe the final three shows to hear the best ones (or the ones voted best anyway) and the only one I might buy an album from is Glennis Grace. And she lost. LOL.
Eva is tough to beat - she never got to taste fame. The music industry was stupid to pass her - but no Katy Perry and Britney make it big. I don't begrudge them for being successful - but Eva should have been a star.
And when you outdo Judy Garland you were doing something.

...since I never rated ANY of those artists as great "singers" to start with.

Most overrated artist of the 20th century, or at least in the running.

Don't understand why this is supposed to be funny.
So you have an article written by a nobody with no real credentials who posts on a gimmicky website that forces you to push the next button 24 times to generate advertising for a crappy website and lists people she doesn't happen to like.Take the first write-up on Katy Perry - makes not a proven superstar in my book. Don't get me wrong, I loved Katy Perry's red-hot breakout hit "I Kissed a Girl" as much as the next person. Though her second single, the aptly titled "Hot N Cold, " left me...-well...-cold. Ditto for the rest of her lackluster albums — which failed to offer up anything else even as remotely fun, catchy, and irresistible. I keep waiting for her other songs to grow on me. So far, that hasn't happened."
This is the extent of this nobody writer's critique. "I liked one song and didn't like the others as much".
Oh well isn't that profound criticism. What the writer doesn't get - cause she's dumb - is that bubblegum pop music isn't entirely or even at all - about the quality of the singing voice.
The entire premise is stupid. Katy Perry has never been thought of as a great singer or a particularly good singer. So she can't be "overrated" when she's never been rated highly. Neither has Bob Dylan or Madonna or most anyone else on that list.
I'm not a fan of Katy Perry and Justin Beiber but then I am not a 12 year old girl which is largely his target market.

Pick your favorite rock band, chances are the lead singer really can't sing. But she/he has the charisma necessary to be a front man/woman.
I think the New York Dolls were a great band (for two albums). David Johansen was the perfect front man for that group but he mostly just bellowed the lyrics.
The problem is not that there is evil in the world, the problem is that there is good. Because otherwise, who would care?
...was the inclusion of Sid Vicious--he never even attempted to "sing" anything.

These types of 'click bait' articles pop up all the time packed with ads. You have to click NEXT to move through the series and with each click the website that hosts the article loads a batch of ads they get paid on.
I've fell for that too many times.Getting more hip to it and dump the website when I see it. If it's somewhat compelling then I'll Google it to find an honest website.
should be #1... talk about nails on a chalkboard! I do think Dylan is an excellent songwriter. Some of the listed singers I do like though but have limited range.. Adam Levine, Jenny from the Block, Selena Gomez, Janet Jackson and Jim Morrison come immediately to mind. I mean come on... who doesn't think these two are hot? I like their voices....

Tom Petty another bad voice and not much to look at either...it seems to go hand in hand in the case of Dylan, Young and Petty....
I have to naysay about Cyrus. That babe can belt. Powerful voice giving songs dynamics.
And Bono takes time to get his throat in sync during songs. When that happens he can be mesmerizing. Edge, the guitar guy, gets him in line.
What--no Bobby Goldsboro or Rod McKuen?
And boy, is that web site ever annoying!

Without Autotune and overdubbing, she sounds like a choking donkey.

First heard her in the raw some time ago. Nails on a chalkboard.
Hitting the mute button emphasized what her strong points were. Both of them.
You make a point ... of her strong points, both of them. :-)
called "poptimism." Any new album by Beyonce, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, and a host of others is the best ever, an instant classic, a true work of art surpassing anything that came before.
If you disagree, you're old. You're a "rockist."
