the tirescape pic was with a Canon 7D/tokina 11-16/f2.8 wide angle lens. The 7D is getting kinda old now. It came out in 2009 and I picked mine up second hand maybe 4 yrs ago. It's always been great for birds in flight because it tracks well and locks on, although for birds, I'd use a different lens. The Tokina lens I got last year; another Craigslist item. It's got a pretty good rep as a superwide/fast lens. The trick to using it is to have something interesting way up in the foreground.
The other two were taken with my first iPhone, an iPhone 4. I've had two iPhones since then but still like the way that 4 takes pics, for some reason. I used an app called 'Hipstamatic' for the locoweed flower. It's a shooting app, as opposed to an editing app. Lots of filter combinations to choose ahead of time, then shoot. The restaurant back door was also iPhone 4, and I think I used an app called 'Pure', but I can't tell for sure now because that phone doesn't work to check it. I liked that app because it captured in an uncompressed TIFF file, I think.
thanks for looking!
Follow Ups:
I hear 'ya on iPhone photography.
They are terrific picture takers. Fast / easy and you can even do Panos.
My 6S+ is my first phone like it (Captain Kirk called and wanted the OTHER one back) so this is new to me.
Good movie mode, too and easy to do 'sequence' work.
Too much is never enough
I keep tabs on a lot of mobile photographers and artists thru Flickr, Instagram and Facebook, mostly.. There are so many true artists who have mastered mobile device art, using either their iPhones or iPads. Pretty amazing.
I remember several years back, shortly after the iPhone craze really took off around 2008 or so, that I read that of all the photos that had been taken since the beginning of photography, some significant number - like 25% or something - had been taken in the previous year. Now, everybody has a camera and an easy means of showing their stuff.
Cell phone photography does NOT necessarily equal 'good' photography.
with Digital, someone can easily take a thousand or more photos on a 2 week vacation. Now? Tell me or better yet SHOW me the good from the bad.
That being said, I've seen a lot of good stuff these days from cell phones. But that's at exhibitions where good stuff is selected.
I wonder what the effect is on Wedding Photography? Once, I set out a disposible on EACH table and collected them afterward and added them to the proof set I made for the bride/groom. Final album had some 'amateur' stuff as well as what I shot.
Digital frees wedding photographer from the constraints of only having so much film.
Too much is never enough
