You can thank the environmentalist whacko lobbies and the EPA for that. We don't want any excess fumes going into the atmosphere! This is an example of what Pres. Trump means when he says the EPA is out of control.
This might make you a little sad/nostalgic: I remember when my parents had a gas can for the lawnmower, and it actually was a metal CAN. About 3 gallons, with a built-in metal nozzle and a little vent hole, both with screw-on metal caps. Easy-peasy. Try selling those these days.
Here's another good one: 1.6 gallon per flush toilets - MANDATED by the government. A company cannot build or sell toilets which use more than that. Ok, so, I'll just flush it twice instead of once. Problem solved.
BTW, has anyone here actually read all the non-removable stickers/notices on the car windshield visor?
:)
Follow Ups:
My Low Flush toilet (1.6 gallon per) will flush a bowl full of golf balls.
3" flush valve release entire tank in one gigantic 'woosh'.
I have an old toilet (original, 30 year old) in the OTHER Bathroom and fitted it with a plastic bottle holding about 2 quarts to reduce flush volume. It's a 3 gallong model, LONG out of favor.
I think the new stuff is even LOWER water usage.
Too much is never enough
Remember "Crabby Old Man" from Saturday Night Live ?
"THATS THE WHAY IS WAS & WE LIKED IT."
To funny. If you don't like that self closing nozzle, cut the mutha f**king end off. Problem solved. But don't forget to cap the spout when your done.
I'm pretty sure the EPA had nothing to do with it. The Consumer Products Safety Commission, yes, the EPA no. If what you are referring to is what I think it is, it's there to prevent your gas can from becoming a flame thrower.
please, don't confuse people with facts. They know what they know & it the nanny state.
I did some research and provided some links in my recent post above.
Read the stickers on a ladder...LOL

I agree 100%.
There appears to be a gas can / spout design that might work for me. 1973shovel posted a link further down this thread. The ones I saw at my local stores were total garbage.
Low flow shower heads, low-flow faucets, low capacity toilets, etc are a pain. I used to shower longer and flush more which doesn't save water, it just wastes time. I drill out the flow restrictor in our shower heads. ;-)
Great comments.
You reminded me: I need to go to the plumbing supply store (not HD or L) and get a flow restrictor for our shower head. The water just blows straight through the 5/8" (?) pipe and out the head. WAY more water than I need.
On the other hand, I take out the flow restrictor from my yard/foundation soaker hose. I mean, really, I should be able to soak the house foundation in a reasonable amount of time, instead of having to think about it and checking it all f-ing day or night.
With regard to low-flow faucets... don't even get me started. Example: For the AES convention in L.A. in 2014, I stayed at the "downtown" Sheraton (now part of Starwood). First, the hotel was something like $200 per night (advance purchase). Then, they charged $40 a night to park my car in their garage. Course, the valet also wanted a tip. Plus, the taxes that the City, County and State wanted - to get "their share". So, with that as a setting, I was in my Sheraton hotel room trying to get some warm water. Seriously, and I'm not kidding, it took damn near two minutes to fill a plastic cup with warm water!! Why? Because they had a flow restrictor on the faucet! I will NOT stay there EVER again.
:)
And lets not forget those hotels that over soften their water. Makes you feel so slimy and unable to get the soap off under the low pressure shower head!
I had similar water gushing results when removing a shower head flow restrictor in one of our showers. Instead, I drilled a couple extra holes (slightly larger holes) into the plastic restrictor and that seemed to do the trick.
Hey fart stain have you tried the thing? No. It's easy to use I'm surprised Abe had a problem. On the other hand it's no surprise you politicized it AND are completely wrong. Please tell us what is wrong with trying to make less gas vapor escape. As I said my first impression was negative but my experience is that it is the best I've ever owned.....now that I learned how to use it.

This is one of the problems when trying to converse with some people:
"Hey fart stain".
One more thing:
"the best I've ever owned.....now that I learned how to use it."
Any 4-year-old should be able to open a can, and not have to "learn how to use it" - as an adult!
No, sorry, one MORE thing:
"it's no surprise you politicized it"
I didn't politicize it - it is what it is: environmental ideology. I merely called it what it is.
Mister know nothing never tried it. I love how you continually prove what a buffoon you are daily here. You didn't politicize it? OMG denial is not a river in Egypt.

Do you actually know which gas cans I was seeing at the stores? The one that 1973shovel posted looks promising so I'll look into it. They're not available at my local stores.
Thanks for being so helpful and adding to the conversation.

I used one hand with about 40 pounds of gas. Notice when the seal opened a few drops came out. I should have released the seal first to relieve the built up pressure. Android rotated the video 90 degrees, looked fine on the phone. I uploaded a church sale video taken from that phone last week but transferred the file from my phone to PC then uploaded it and it oriented fine. Mine is different and cheaper than shovels both are from Tractor Supply. I think I benefit from the extra weight of the gas.

than the one I bought, without doing any researching beforehand.
The additional handle on the back of your can offers you better ergonomics than mine, which only has a handle at the top.
The most important difference I can see is the shut-off valve on yours is at the tip of the spout, while mine is located at the base. So, the couple of times my spout slipped off the filler neck of my bike's gas tank, yes, the shut-off stopped the flow, but still allowed whatever gas was in the spout to pour all over the tank.
If I bought my gas can to use on my lawnmower's tank, 1.5 feet off the ground, I'd not have had the same complaints. But trying to hold this 5 gallon can up to chest height with one hand, while trying to turn the locking shut-off ring at the base of the spout with the other, while trying to maintain even downward pressure on the filler neck went beyond inconvenient, and caused me to spill gas all over my bike's tank a few times.
Since switching to a free flow spout, I've had no more problems with spillage, but the gas can is now un-vented so pouring can be slow. This whole topic got me curious, and a quick search showed me that I could buy and install a vent, but they seem to generally be sold in multiple quantities. I'm hoping I can find a single available at Tractor Supply.
Thanks for the video, E Man. Hope life is treating you well.

I'm sure that design works fine for the location of your gas tank opening. It wouldn't work right for my Yamaha generator but the one that 1973shovel linked to probably will.
