I came upon this vintage race footage over the weekend.
What a cracker. The duel starts at the 3 min mark.
The Mustang only gets up in the end by cruelly blocking, certainly not by racing ;-)BTW, this is Sydney Motor Sport Park. I've raced my bicycle here several times - it's a cracking track. The final left-right-left combo before the finishing straight are where all the action is. The downhill right hand sweeper is a gem!

noticed that the wheels on the mustang were on a slant ? why would that be ?
There can be some increase in cornering ability by adjusting camber toward the negative. And with some loss of straight line stability. Go to your local race track and see all the race cars that have a negative camber alignment.

Almost all cars are set up with negative camber, to 1 or 2 degrees maximum. You can't see it.
Race setup where tyre wear and twitchiness is not important is another story and it's common to see camber like this, or more.

Being a Mini owner I always enjoy seeing racing footage of those little cars.
I presume the Mustangs in this race had close to stock engines. Otherwise they would have pulled away stronger on the straights. And the little Mini's were quick!

At least 400 bhp, possibly more. Especially if it's a 302 tunnel-port.
The 1310cc BMC A donks in racing Cooper S's used to make about 120 bhp. They are very light, and grip way better than a racing Mustang ever could.
Minis regularly beat the V8 cars in the 60 and early 70s.

I remember the first time I ever got airborn in a car - ex police Cooper S. Amazing car for it's time.

Being a Ford guy,I loved it,thanks.I used to hate road course racing because of the old Sears Point road course on the NASCAR circuit but since they redid it,it was pretty good.I still prefer Watkins Glen but I really love Pocono which is a super speedway that drives like a road course.

We used to have a lot of realinteresting car racing with great variety of makes and tracks. Today, it's almost all as boring as batshit, except for the historic sports car races like this and the supersports car races they put on before the big events.
Cheers,
