...ever.
What do you think?
My personal favorite is the '67 GTO.
Follow Ups:
If it's permissible to jump ahead several decades, this is the most gorgeous and muscular car I've ever seen, ideally proportioned.

Hi ,
My favorites 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T 426 Hemi and the 67-69 Shelby GT 500 are not on the list .
Mondial
I've wanted one since I was a kid.

I hope you get one.
When I was a kid the neighborhood gear head had three. The first was black on black.
He sold that and bought a white one with a red interior.
The last one was like the one below, just add a set of Cragars and wider tires in the back.
He started at 16 and was done with Chevelles and had moved onto Vettes by the time he was 18.
My friends and I (about 13/14 at the time) all wanted to be him.

Only one choice for me, the 1970 Buick GSX Stage One.
Out of that lot I'd take the Road Runner.
Got to drive one of these when they were new. With giant for the time sway bars it was my first experience with effective roll control.
But yes, when the right things are done, they can go round corners and change direction pretty well.
I had a buddy with a 1970 or 71 Monte Carlo SS, 450hp 454. With the suspension, brakes and transmission fully done - It was brilliant.
No floating - it felt like it was on rails.
Cheers,
John K
I like everyone of those cars on that list but my favorite is the Mach1 and the Superbird.
"For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple, and wrong" H. L. Mencken
252 hp. Not as much as plenty of straight line rockets.
But I can go around corners way faster than any of those old buckets.
And if my car gets wrecked, I almost certainly will come out unscathed. Not something you can say for 60's or 70's muscle cars. Which with a major wreck they peel out your corpse with a can opener.
...but really cool.
Ford Focus RS. 350HP 350lb-ft. "Only" $36K USD. Fun to drive? Probably. Fun to drive daily and on road trips? Maybe, if you don't mind
your teeth vibrating loose and falling out of your face.

My 13 year old car (Z06) weighs lots less and has more power and torque, and I wouldn't call it insane. Plus it looks nice, that Focus makes a great sleeper (not great/fast looking, but fairly quick).
Focus = insane, no.
If you like that kind of thing there is a somewhat less than sane UK-specific model of the Mitsubishi Evo X (FQ-440) with 450bhp and 412lb-ft.
But then any car set up for racing is going to ride a bit harshly on the street as a daily driver.
I would say my car is pretty comfortable. just stiff. really stiff.
...to spank all those silly teenagers with their Honda Civics and trash can mufflers. ;-)Actually, the Focus ST seems like a really cool car. I was a VW GTi fan, twice. I had the original 1983 VW Rabbit GTi, and then the 2003 GTi.

Notice the little "M" decal? I have no idea why I stuck it on there. ;-)

A dream car to me is a '67 GTO, cherried out in Burgundy Red, with Hurst four on the floor, and Cragar mags all around.
See ya. Dave
A '60 Corvette would be my pick if I could only have one.

I'm surprised that the Oldsmobile 442 didn't get a mention, but then, there are just too many candidates.

...the list by the '49 Rocket 88.
The look and color (as shown in the attached article) just said "old car restoration". No one could have guessed what a monster it was. They built them heavy in those days. Today it might roll off of a tank assembly line.
Barrett-Jackson would argue otherwise.

...sports car - although a great one.
Like the Shelby Cobra.
Muscle cars are sedans.
If you're/they're excluding 2 seaters (sorry AC Cobra, sorry a few Corvettes), that list wouldn't still be anything like mine would. Mine would be more like:
1969 Cougar, one of my all time faves. This would bump out the Mustang.
1969 Camaro RS/SS, whatever with the flip up lights.
1968 Charger RT there shown is mighty nice, even if I ain't much of a Dodge guy
1967 Mustang I guess?
OK, bored. They no longer appeal that much to me, much prefer newer muscle.
