I am sad to tell you that my friend and audio legend James Bongiorno has passed away. He had been battling multiple melanoma for what seems like years now. He passed away alone in his apartment in his sleep January 10th.
We spoke about 2 weeks ago, he called me and he told me how much he missed his good friend Brian Cheney and spoke of new projects he had in mind as well as the difficulties he faced.
I sincerely wish I had pried more stories out of him from his years as a touring musician and Las Vegas denizen in the early days. He was a phenomenal piano player you know but he told me he was even better on Accordion but we'll, never know, he never recorded with it and Emphysema had taken the strength and stamina he needed to play these last years.
I expect more formal announcements to be made and obituaries will be published. I just wanted to post this so that perhaps all our prayers get to him as there is to be a viewing of his remains at a morturary at 123 N. A St. in Lompoc tomorrow (1/16/13) between 6 & 8 PM. Short notice but I was only informed today myself.
This man was a legend and self taught. His gear was without a doubt top shelf in every case and he is certainly responsible for the existence and growth of high end consumer audio. His last products won several awards and he leaves a huge legacy. I will miss him so much , he was such a character; colorful, amazingly self assured, and quite the curmudgeon; ready to share his opinion on any topic. I met him in 1998 myself and have many fond memories. He was truly one of a kind. God Bless you James Bongiorno.
I hope to see more memories and stories from you all out there. Thank you. Hugh Mandeson

James was an original. You couldn't help but love him.

Never a doubt about where he was in a gathering.
His clothes at the shows were louder than the music! (I mean that affectionately.)
We are all getting older.

'Still not saluting.'
Although the news of his passing was posted recently, your kind, heartfelt words about the man and sharing details of the wake are appreciated.
RIP, indeed.
