I just bought a pair of Grado headphones, and had watched a couple of YouTube video reviews by two different, seemingly sane, Americans.
And, and, and . . . they both pronounced the name of the company "Grahdo"! Like Movado.
I thought it was pronounced "Greydo". You know, like playdough. Please tell me I've not been living a lie this whole time!

However, the company's name is customarily pronounced 'gray-doh'. Does that clear things up? Like mud?
Maybe murky water, but not mud! :-)I finally got used to pronouncing Thorens with the accent on the o not the e (THAW-rens) after years of thinking it was ThuhRENS. I don't want to go through that trauma again! :-)

If you've paid for the cans, you are actually entitled to pronounce the brand name as as "Rumplestiltskin", if you so desire. I do believe, however, you'd stand a better chance of name recognition with your target audience if you stick with Graydoh, or Grahdoh...
The "Youtubeites" (think of them as the Luddites of the digital age)you encountered have simply chosen the archaic form of pronunciation, as in: "Forsooth, methinks thine Grahdos are verily the bees' knees, fo' shizzle".
Others less highly educated, or lacking the proverbial "stick in an unspecified orifice", might content themselves with a pithy: "Yo. Graydoh."
As a 2-time Graydooer (GS1000, PS1000), I've always favored "Graydoh".
So spill the beans! Whad'ya get?
Yo! Did you know that "Yo Banana Boy!" is a palindrome?

How about "palindromemordnilap"..... Beat that!!!
It's not a palindrome??? Sorry, Josh.
Dang, I'm redder than a madam whose boob makes a toot at noon.
Just one question before I go...
Do geese see God?
Eva, can I stab bats in a cave?Or these two from a historical perspective:
1. A man, a plan, a canal, Panama
and
2. Able was I ere I saw Elba (which is cool because each word works independently)
Edit: Oh, and I LOVE "Do geese see God?" Never heard that one.

I have an older SR 80, bought vs the 60 because I felt that if I could get that much noticeably better sound, to my ears, for about the price of a CD or 2, I should get the better one. I should probably go try a 225 or something 'just to make sure I got the right one'. So... which gredeaux did you get, Josh?
I listened to the 225is but didn't think they sounded as good. That said, I was listening specifically to the built in headphone amp on the bel canto DAC 2.5, which is all I have for headphone listening. It's quite good actually, but probably not at the same level as dedicated headphone amps. To me it was an easy choice to save the $100 and get the 80s. My wife has the AKG240 Studios. Same price and also very nice. Not quite as lively and punchy, but perhaps more neutral with stronger bass. I like both of them and it's nice to have two sets that are both nice but sound different.
Uh-oh! Did I just make an audio-related post in Central?

Thanks for the first, oh second, hand pronounciations. I always wondered.
That's like those snotty Brits lately referring to Jaguar as JAG-U-OUR.
It's a damn jagwire! Friend plays a Fender JAGWIRE!
Greydo has always been the pronunciation I've heard, but perhaps we are both livin' a lie!
BTW: Joe Grado turned 88 yesterday.

Izzat what you mean, Mr. Mikeee? Or am I confabulating again?
Confabulation... Heh! I like that word; sounds kinda' dirty, don't it?
"Jagwar" (with the second vowel pronounced like a pirate would say "Nyaaaaar" not like the shorter a in "war").
Certainly not" Jag-u-our" though. We can agree on that! Where do those Brits get off? :-)

I'm British and pronounce it Jag-you-ar when the occasion arises, though I drive a Skoda and proud of it. It is very snotty to care what you drive really. O/H drives a Volvo, (pronounced vulva, but it's our joke really)

Jagwar is the East Coast pronunciation!

Ask yourself, "How would I pronounce it in Italy?"
Answer: GRAH-do.

Actually, a local dealer (who just lent me some cables to demo at home) said that when he calls them, they always answer the phone "Graydoh", so there you have it. What a relief! :-)

My longstanding Dealer, Custom Electronics, has met them and says 'Greydo'!
