"Be good to yourself, for a change!"
So this past Saturday I took his advice:

Great, Jim...does it do tone-arm wire soldering well?
I was going to attempt to solder the leads from the yoke onto the Cardas connectors, but I am such a klutz...especially with 2,957 gauge wire.
Enjoy the ride...you've more than earned it.

Music. Window or mirror?
How about "frequently"?
Don't buy it?
Ummm...."occasionally"?
No?
"Every now and then"?
"When I have to?"
"Once in a blue moon?"
"When I'm damn good & ready?"
(How you doin', Mikee? I've been thinking about you....)

The hum, I am almost positive, is caused by the BrickWall filters...obviously damaged in the flood.
I don't think the insurance will give me anything as we maxxed out with all the other stuff, but I'll call them to see.

Right backatcha!(Edit: Actually, you sent it to me here at the office, but that's ok, Mike)

the cards for the spokes. And of course, the bell.
Looks nice. How many miles per 12oz. do you get? :-)

That reminds me....
A lady-friend of mine had (past tense) a bell on her bike in the shape of a flower, and one day when I tried making it ring I pushed the plastic lever the wrong way....and promptly broke it off (the lever, not the bell).
I'd like to find a replacement bell for her.
And regarding miles/can, I've graduated to pitchers, Neil!

My Cannondale oldie but goodie, 1996 SRV 2000 mountain bike, $200 from a doctor going overseas.
Not built for speed, but has suspension for my large body.
Get asked about it frequently, but really don't know that much about bikes
Yup, Headshock it is.$2900 bucks!
No wonder people ask about it.
The person I bought it from hadn't used it in many years, left it outside/
It was a clean up job. After clean, lube and pump, it seems fine, took a while to get all of the spiders and webs out of it.
It appears that your front suspension is up in the headtube, rather than being down in the forks. Either that, or some "funky" bellows-like thing has attached itself to your bike.....
I'm curious as to how it rides. Care to share any impressions?
Jim

so I don't have much to compare it with. I enjoy riding it a lot, has lots of gears for going uphill, it handles well, I can go off curbs and over bumps without problems. Heavy tires and suspension allow for that. I wanted something I could beat up a bit without destroying it.
Haven't the guts yet at my age to do anything really radical, or take it extensively off trail.
It is not as "fast" as the skinny tire cross country type bikes, which routinely pass me up, but not by that much.
Your new bike looks like it is made for some speed and distance.
I ride mine all over the Santa Cruz, CA area, so my Cannondale mountain bike is also excellent transportation.
Suspension/no suspension. Road/trail....
As long as you're riding, and it brings you enjoyment, that's all that matters, right? Sounds like you've got the right attitude, and since I frequently bike-commute on my hybrid, I sincerely applaud this:
"I ride mine all over the Santa Cruz, CA area, so my Cannondale mountain bike is also excellent transportation"
May the wind be at your back, and all of your hills be down! :)

Have fun with it.
Looking forward to your impressions.
Is that itty bitty saddle comfy ?

reelsmith's axiom: Its going to be used equipment when I sell it, so it may as well be used equipment when I buy it.
It's way too soon to tell, Dean. It has only a little "divot" in the center, so it's not a "true" split seat like I have on my Specialized. However, I popped for the second, optional (softer) seat post, so I'm going to play around with those a bit, and possibly mount-up the split Specialized seat, before I make any decisions about the stock seat.
And since I only have 28 miles on it so far....
Jim
Simplify.
Should I be considering a seat post suspension too? I had always imagined that they would drain energy from forward propulsion to bouncing up and down.
Bill's Audio Cave
These guys are the class act in headsets, etc and the Thudbuster is verrry popular with us REAL bicyclists, you know, getting muddy.
But they do make a model for sis, ... errrr, Roadies, too.
And just so you know Bill, "real" bikes don't have suspensions!
Jim
Simplify.
Friends don't let friends ride in the street.
The optional post shaft I bought isn't really a "suspension", but rather it just flexes more than the stock post shaft (much like the rear frame on this bike). It's more for "fine tuning" than anything else....
I've not ridden a bike with one of these "seat suspension" dealios (pictured here), but a fellow rider, Kerry, has one on his ride, and I'm sure he would be happy to talk with you about it, if you're thinking along these lines....Spring ("tractor") seats, IMO, just suck-up your energy, and as such, are not to be considered. (Of course, your ass may tell you otherwise....)

I have never seen one of those before.
Kinda' funky looking, but easy to imagine how they could soften things up.

Looks like a nice ride! Some years ago I bought a Kestrel 200SCi secondhand, which one of these days I'm going to bring up from the basement and clean up to ride again. It has all Shimano 105 components and a Shimano 600 seat post. When I tune it up I'll replace the pedals and probably the seat but won't go wild.
It's a super light frame, just about picking it up with one finger, and it responds when I "say go". A real joy to ride along the country roads out here.
Mine looks kind of like this but with more conventional looking spokes. 54cm, black.
Review
Specs - mine's a 2003, with slightly different components
If you're ever going to be down this way, let me know and I'll have it ready for you to take it for a spin if you like.

A guy in one of my cycling groups rides a Kestrel...nice bike! And the Specs on "yours" reads quite impressively, and I bet it's one sweet ride! Get that sucker out of the basement Brian, and start hitting some local tails! You'll be quite tired at first, I'll bet, but if you keep at it....
Plus, lots of pretty women-types in bike groups, you know? :)

Mikee is a wise man for sure........Great bike. My partner and his wife ride almost daily and they are huge fans of carbon. Way to go Jimmy.
Will
I've read that aluminum "gives" (bends) a little before it breaks, while carbon just goes, "pop" (and the rider goes "splat!")
And I know that some of my routes aren't exactly "kind" to bike frames....
However, I've been doing a lot of asking around, and I've yet to run across anyone that has had a carbon failure (frame or forks). And of the people I asked, none of them know anyone that has experienced a failure....
And since the "delta" (carbon over aluminum) was only an extra $300 due to the "clearance sale" (versus $1,000 originally), well....it was a "no-brainer"!

Wear it in good health.

By the way, I asked the LBS about your comments regarding Cannondale's reputation for stiffness (rough ride) "back in the day", and they said (I'm just repeating what I was told) that because of those complaints, and the resultant lost market share, Cannondale had to become one of the leading innovators in carbon frame technology in order to woo back their lost customers. I can't verify the truth to that statement, but considering that both sales guys I dealt with, along with the service tech, were sad to drop the Cannondale line, I think that says something.....Plus, I rode a Trek Madone, a Specialized Roubaix, and a Felt Z5, and the Cannondale not only fit me better right out of the gate, but it was also smoother over the bumps, crisper in the turns, and felt more "of a piece"...
I have a 30 day, "no questions asked", return warranty on it, so I plan on riding the hell out of it this month!

The bike that feels right, is right, of course. They're all great bikes on your list. Now you gotta start looking for Century rides in your area. Ah, the brotherhood of pain!

(LOL!) Quite a few of my cycling friends purchased new bikes this year, and they've already decided for me that I will be joining them on their group Century ride sometime this year (late summer, early fall)!Edit: A friend of a friend wiped-out doing a "double deuce" yesterday/Sunday, and the road rash picture is not pretty to look at (I would post it here, but I don't have his permission). Regardless, he managed to finish all 200 miles. Now that's tough!

I think that's Mr. Raft?
By gum, now that you mention it, it sure does look like him!

Call it niggling if you will, and no, I'm no expert, but I've a sneaking suspicion that the piece he's aiming isn't consistent with the time frame being portrayed therein.
Long time, no talk. Hope everything has settled down finally....

The rest of the hardware is Shimano 105, one of the major features that attracted me to this bike (I've been riding a friend's aluminum Specialized with 105's, and really like 'em)!
I never thought that I would go carbon, but at that price point....

bought them used they are Mavic R-sys with carbon spokes in the front and combination carbon xtal in the back...the bike came with dura-ace groupo , the frame is an older Trek madone OCLV carbon, the same the discovery special builds use, overall it is very lively bike, i do not think i will ever grow into it :). I can easily spend a day in the saddle without getting irritated by any of it. It was a deal i could not refuse, so there you have it.dee

I've been having very similar thoughts about mine, Dee. I doubt that I will ever reach a skill level where I will need a "better" bike, and I also doubt I will ever reach this bike's true maximum potential.
In a way it's sad (money wasted?), but then again...comforting (margin for error).
Ride on, my friend!

All that money and you don't even get pedals :-) Good Luck.
Bill's Audio Cave
One of the LBS's is selling-off their complete Cannondale inventory, so I got this one for less than $2K! And the fact that this very model has been at the top of my "wish list" for a while now makes it all the more sweeter!Pedals, computer, and other accessories I'll either swap-over from "The Tank" (the hybrid, now-commuter bike), or buy online.
And, yeah! It really is one sweet ride, Bill! :)
