So I previously read a post about putting a Beard on the stands for monitor speakers to improve the bass (I assume the Beard is simply a flat board on the stand below the speaker). If this is such a great idea - ??? - why not have a large board as used on an Open Baffle and have a cut out for the face of the monitor speaker (i.e., my Merlin TSM MMM Black Magic editions, 2-way). I thought about playing around with this, but I thought I would put it out there for some serious responses to outright open laughter.
Follow Ups:
You may try helmholtz resonator, behind the speakers.
Like this, for example. DIY also is option.

A 'beard' will have some effect, but not a lot. It will lower the baffle step frequency on the vertical plane, but not by a lot, and not by enough to extend into the bass region. A larger apparatus such as you describe will extend the baffle step even lower over a broader angle, but it's still not going to make you think you've suddenly acquired a pair of subs, nor will it defeat Allison Effect, though it will send the cancellation dip to a lower frequency.
which I have yet to set up. But a previous post just got me to wonder if this would enhance their performance. When I have a couple of days to play around, I might just try this for the fun of it. Oh, the Merlins are sealed boxes - absolutely love them with tube amps.
If they have baffle step compensation in the crossover it might make them worse. I'd try it with cardboard before going for anything more permanent.
HomeDepot type very large boxes work? This could be fun.
That's what I'd use to experiment with.
