Tar mate would you have any idea what the cones and diaphragms might cost if they need to be replaced? I am concerned especially that if the diaphragms where stuffed they would cost more then the drivers to replace. I am thinking about getting these for my mumma. The last 2 sets of speakers off ebay where a bust. I dont want a third set to sit out in my shed with the others. She could live with the hpd cones but not fractured frams.

In North America these are the people to talk to:http://reconingspeakers.com/products-page/tannoy-diy-recone-kits/
There is also Speakerbits in Melbourne, Australia and of course Lockwood Audio, London for everybody anywhere.
Bear in mind that changing the cones from HPD to Monitor Golds means an increase in efficiency by around 3dB (you might need to modify the xover slightly!) and a loss of 10Hz or so in bass extension.
Lots of useful info can be found here:http://www.hilberink.nl/speaker.htm

PS: Lockwood have now got HE conversions for HPDs. They replace the rotting foam with equally soft but non-rotting folded paper!

Sweet thanks mate.1k for cones 850$ for the speakers complete. like I suspected. You wouldn't want to buy a broken pair.
Sorry but I already got two working pairs.
No what I meant was if I bought them on ebay and they where broken I would preety much have done my 850$ b.l.zeebub making it a extremly hi risk purchase.
I did find genuine frams for hpd's on ebay for 150$ way cheaper then I thought.
I think I understand you now: When you write 'frams' you mean 'diaphragms' rather than 'frames', yes?
