Was wondering if anybody got a chance to work with those drivers?
I know they are expensive, but if you and get the cabinet from Madisound (Around $1000) and purchase the drivers (2 x $1000) then everything is approximately $3000….
Would it compete with other “single driver” type loud speakers that are on the market in that price range?
Just curious
Thanks
Mike

I considered them at one stage. But, despite their reasonable efficiency suggestions were that they performed best with more power than I was willing to feed them.
IIRC, Nelson Pass though them less like a traditional efficient single driver speaker and more like the usual cone drivers but with some of the single driver benefits. I think Kloss also preferred them with higher power. I'd not be surprised if a lowish output impedance is more important than power when it comes to driving these.
Cheers,
Great driver madisounds cabs are pretty good I've listened to them quite a few times. I've used x-1s in other cabinets. Keep in mind SEAs just had a price increase heard x-1 increased much. With cabs think near $3300 for kit.
I'm looking at the Fostex FE163En-S / T96A-EX2 super tweeter for my next build however the cost when the super tweeter is added approach the Seas Exotic territory and i'm wondering if it would the better choice.
One limiting factor is that i like low powered SET's such as 2A3, 50 and 45tubes and realize the 93db 163En-S will be a little better suited for the first two tube types but it'll be used for small room near field listening so has yet to be ruled out.
Any input from anyone here who may've heard both as well as thoughts from those who haven't are appreciated.
I see that you have made yourself a large bookshelf design.
Did you try a floorstanding design of your own with the same driver?
Will you try to improve on the floorstanding design in the future?
Thanks
Mike
I built many designs with x-1. The madisound cabinet while nice is the usual Chinese built MDF cab. I use a larger design for floorstander. This is a pic of 3 way with x-1

That speaker must do justice to some rock...and a lot more im sure.
Too big for my room though.
I like your "monitor design" using that driver however.
best
Mike
