Useful information. But the game changer for me was when we learned how to easily rip the SACDs and cast aside the physical media.
Follow Ups:
What is your method? I have a number of SACDs and would be keen to rip them!

Look here. I also use an Oppo. However, some other devices can be used. Do a search.
Thanks Mel! I have an Oppo 103 and will give it a try. I recently bought an RME ADI-2 pro Fs R and am looking forward to decoding SACD rips directly.

I completely understand that. However, I wonder how many people who ripped SACDs still would have if playing SACDs through an external DAC was an option back then?
Also, there are people like me who just like and are dedicated to physical media. Someone said Japanese audiophiles are still very into physical media too.

A never ending discussion for sure. But, what if getting rid of the physical media, besides increasing convenience, also increases SQ? It really does, you know. But of course ripping lots of media can be a pita.
That's open for debate. Many are now realizing physical discs sound just as good as ripped audio, streaming, and downloads and without all the hassle.
I have a low bar for my definition of hassle.
I hope you'll have a follow up to your review of the NAD C289 in the next issue.
Yes, I do but it takes the form of having all my recordings as downloaded or ripped files which I can access instantly from almost anywhere. When I had physical discs (silver or black), they seemed always to be in the wrong house. That is not longer a concern.
Do you mean the C298? What follow-up do you want? All I can add is that I bought them.
Yes, the C-298. What'd I say? Anyhow, the fact that you bought the pair seems significant enough in itself to warrant a follow-up. Lord knows, there have been many follow-ups printed for far less important reasons.
I do not see the need for a follow-up. What would you like to see?
I thought the fact that you bought the two amps warranted a Follow Up since that fact didn't appear in the original review - you hadn't bought them yet. In the review you discussed selling some old amps (were they Bryston?) and that your new benchmark was the NAD integrated, I forget it's model. I'd find it interesting why you retained that model and also the two C - 298s.
1. I bought the NAD two C298s for the main system as backup to the Benchmarks and for situations in which their additional power capability would be useful or necessary. This is for the main system in NYC.It wasn't possible to include the fact that I bought this in the review since I always wait to see that JA's measurements tell me about a product before making a commitment to purchase.
2. I bought the NAD M28 (7channel power amp) for the CT system which is more of an A/V system and it replaced a nearly-20-year-old Bryston 9B-THX (5channel power amp).
Howzat?

Dat's good. Tanks.I have a nephew-in-law name Doug Tegan in NYC. Any chance you know of him? He and my niece,an editor at Harper Collins, live on 74th street a block or two from the Mannes School of music where I've often gone for piano recitals when visiting them.
PS - I looked up the Mannes school and see they have relocated to 13th st.
