Hello! Just acquired a Brooklyn Dac+ which is better going directly to my Wyred for Sound PA to my KEF R700s. Cds and streaming is more transparent. But my analogue PS audio phono preamp directly into the Dac is not as good as it was using my Pass Lab preamp. Its not as natural sounding. I don't want to switch power out cable on the fly as it's too much trouble in my setup cabinet. My question is what can I do to improve my LP experience feed into the Dac and eliminate the Pass Lab preamp? Love my LP side along with Digital?
Follow Ups:
A good preamp should help the SQ, not impair it. Perhaps you have discovered that it's time to look for a better (for you) one.
and that of others that a good line stage beats a direct connection.
Have you tried using the balanced outputs on the DAC to your X2.5?
Yep! Balanced all the way!
I'm a little confused. Do either the Wyred or the Pass have phono stages?

The wyred for sound is just a power amp. My old setup was a PS Audio phono preamp going into a Pass Lab preamp to my WFS PA. But now I have the Brooklyn Dac+ with analogue input but the Phono preamp does not sound as good as it did going into the Pass Lab pre amp. So it's like Im taking one digital step forward and one analogue step back by not using the a Pass Lab preamp.
Thanks John!
I will give the LP to Brooklyn connection another few listens for sure. You are probably correct and Im just hearing it in a different way using the analogue dac input.
BTW I love the tidal digital (MQA) streaming and cd listening using the Brooklyn. Might give Qobuz a try to compare for my system. Going to have to to give up my small non- hybrid sacd collection as another consequence of going with new dac.
Qobuz in theory should win out...
Maybe you can find someone with the capability to extract the DSD64 from your SACDs. That's what I did. Of course, I only had 10 or 11 SACDs. My favorite digital format is DSD256. On the other hand, the Brooklyn Bridge really makes PCM recordings sound better than I've ever heard them.
Best regards,
John Elison
Is it possible to connect your PS Audio phono preamp directly to your power amplifier? What I'm wondering is whether your Pass Labs line-stage is coloring the sound.
I own a Pass Labs X1 line-stage and a Pass Labs XOno phono-stage. I also own a Mytek Brooklyn Bridge, which I now use as my line-stage replacing the Pass Labs X1. I still use the Pass Labs XOno as my phono-stage because it sounds better than the built-in phono stage in the Brooklyn Bridge. However, I think my turntable sounds just as good with my XOno connected to my Brooklyn Bridge as when it was connected to my Pass Labs X1.
At any rate, I'm happy using my Brooklyn Bridge as my control preamplifier, but I primarily listen to digital music files nowadays. All my favorite vinyl has been copied to digital, so I rarely play my turntable anymore.
Best regards,
John Elison
