The new Pittsburg Tchak #4, MC SACD, $ 15.25.
DSD 256 in MC ( original recording format ),
$37.49.
From Native DSD.com.
Whaaa?
The SACD, in DSD 64, required resampling down to DSD 64 from 256.
The DSD 256 is original format, no extra processing?
So why the large diff in price?
Follow Ups:
So, why don't you write to nativdsd and ask them?
From what I gather in reading, all labels other than Channel, submit DXD edited masters to nativdsd. Tom at nativdsd then creates the different file types, etc., by running the DXD file through his HQPlayer Pro.
And if you look at other selections from nativdsd, you see a somewhat standardization of prices for different files.
" So why the large diff in price?"
There isn't really a sustainable technical answer to this as producing a downsampled file from a higher resolution master is effectively done at the press of a button.
However all record companies price according to resolution AFAIK. I am reminded of the early days of stereo when the stereo LP carried a premium price compared to the mono version.
Of course the trade price that the record company charges is reflected in the retail price that the vendor then makes. Record companies are anxious to monetise any perceived advantage that one format has over another even if the cost to them of that difference is negligible. To a great extent the pricing of records is , and always has been, largely arbitrary.

they should have enough bits in the DSD256 to make four SACDs at DSD64. So, I guess you are paying by the bit count. :-)
And yet...
Live by the Bit, Die by the Bit!
but they're not cheap.
...if you're into streaming bits!!I haven't downloaded anything from HDTracks or elsewhere in a very long time since subscribing to Qobuz and Tidal. I now rent my bits and they're quite good ;-)
