I'm speaking specifically about the FiiO M15 and all you want to do is talk about irrelevant bullshit. I guess I'm totally missing your point.
Oh, Well. So be it!
Good luck,

Follow Ups:
that even as a DIY kit builder with presumably some knowledge of audio circuits - you seem to have no interest how the best engineers exploit the most performance from their leading edge gear. Such involves using the finest active and passive devices, power supplies and circuit topologies. One can easily spot where cost cutting measures are taken.
I began learning how to improve Dyna and Audire components when I was a teenager in the 70s. As for me, I find high performance audio gear anything but BS.

In that case, you'd love the FiiO M15. I've not heard anything comparable. Perhaps you have, but the only way to know is to listen to it. Until you hear it in your own system, you have no idea what you're talking about.
Good luck,
John Elison
I've not heard anything comparable.
I'm sure it's a great entry in the intended portable player market.
And it "Technologically rivals the best smartphones!"

The truth of the matter is that you have absolutely no idea what it's capable of until you connect it directly to a high-end power amplifier with a balanced interconnect as I've done. However, you can continue to pretend you know. That seems to be your forte.
Happy listening!
John Elison
you don't have the same ability I have to replace the op amps with FETs and directly compare the difference. They are decidedly larger which would not work in your compact phone sized form factor.
It's a matter of subtlety and musicality. Instruments and voice reveal more of the space around them.
Since mine are socketed, I may spend $25 to get three OPA1622s in eight pin dip packages to compare just for grins.
