AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAArgh........
More later.
Follow Ups:
I stopped listening to digital music up to a year ago, just my vinyl which of course gets boring even with thousands of LPs. I then discovered hi-res streaming and haven't looked back. Tidal and Qobuz free you from your collection. Streaming frees you from wires, boxes, collections and ownership. I'm listening to something right now as I type that I'd never buy and may never hear again.
As for me, I use the very same equipment for streaming as I do playing digital content stored on the NAS - where the server software accessing Qobuz/Tidal resides. Not a single extra box.
As for collections, they exist only in virtual hard disk space. My CD collection is on indefinite loan to the local library.
My only extra box(es) are the Raspberry Pi's that act as streamers. My server is the iMac I'm typing on. I have a big 3 story house and my daughter on the third floor streams from the computer downstairs using her phone as a remote, or just Airplays from Spotify. She had the system in her college house without the streaming capability and says they'd have used it more if they didn't have to put down their phones because it was tethered. Heaven forbid a college age child be without their phone.
My only extra box(es) are the Raspberry Pi's that act as streamers.
Since I stopped spinning shiny disks years ago, I use streamers/iPads to play any music - ripped/downloaded content, Qobuz and internet radio stations.
They are THE player for everything.
Or so us past and current vinyl enthusiasts claim. : )
